The Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League video game will provide an immersive and unique perspective by allowing players to step into the shoes of the villains. Unlike previous games set in Gotham City, this game takes place in Metropolis, offering a fresh and exciting backdrop. The game will unfold over the course of a single day, adding to the anticipation and thrill of the gameplay. Just like the Arkham games, which take place in a single night, this setting allows players to fully immerse themselves in the mission and feel a sense of progression and fluidity as they capture each villain alongside Batman.
Because each Arkham game focuses on a specific segment of the storyline, it allows for a more captivating and immersive world-building experience. Rocksteady cleverly leaves room for fans to use their own imaginations to fill in the gaps that are not explicitly explained in the game. The individual stories within each game are self-contained and do not rely on cliffhangers or specific plot points to continue the narrative, although loose ends are often revisited and resolved. This unique approach of having each Arkham game take place within a single night allows players to fully accompany Batman on his thrilling adventure.
In contrast, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League presents a different approach to the Arkhamverse for several obvious reasons, such as the fact that players will control the villains and the location will not be limited to Gotham City. While Arkham Asylum deviates from Gotham City as well, its gothic atmosphere integrates seamlessly with Batman's persona. Kill the Justice League, on the other hand, prominently features Metropolis in daylight, offering a fresh twist on the Arkham games. It would be truly exciting to witness the sequel to Arkham Knight unfold over the course of a single day, showcasing a minor deviation from the established formula.
Each Batman Arkham Game Takes Place in a Single Night
Rocksteady's Arkham games accomplished what few franchises can, especially in the action-adventure genre. While RPGs are known for their world-building capabilities, Batman's rich lore provided Rocksteady with a foundation to build upon. Despite each entry taking place in a different part of the world, whether it be Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, or Gotham City, the universe feels fully realized and established.
What makes these stories even more incredible is that they all take place in a single night. This allows players to fully immerse themselves in the experience of apprehending villains and adds to the overall satisfaction. The idea that Batman refuses to give up until every last villain is dealt with in one night is both gratifying and aids in the seamless progression of side quests alongside the main story. This is particularly evident in Arkham Knight, where players have the opportunity to individually incarcerate each villain in the GCPD.
Kill the Justice League Could Be Told in a Single Day
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League appears to primarily be a shooter game, filled with countless waves of Brainiac aliens. This may limit the opportunities for Task Force X to confront other villains in Metropolis. It is possible, though, that Rocksteady has kept an action-adventure element hidden, mirroring the gameplay and story progression seen in the Arkham games. However, such revelations would be concerning at this stage.
It would be great if Kill the Justice League took place within a single day, paying homage to the narrative structure of the Arkham games. However, there is footage showcasing an open-world Metropolis at night in Kill the Justice League, suggesting the presence of multiple in-game days. Perhaps the story starts one night and concludes the next.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League releases on February 2, 2024, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
