Unveiling Sauron's True Identity: Decoding the Enigmatic Halbrand's Theme Song - A Closer Look at LOTR: Rings of Power's First 2 Episodes and What Lies Ahead for Sauron in Season 2

Composer Bear McCreary, known for his work on The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, recently discussed a hidden technique used to unveil the true identity of Halbrand as Sauron in the show's initial episodes. Set during the Second Age of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, the series explores the creation of the Rings and the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron. The first season concludes by uncovering the shocking revelation that Halbrand, who was previously seen as Galadriel's loyal confidant, was actually Sauron all along.

During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, McCreary elaborated on how music played a significant role in hinting at Halbrand's true nature, even from the early episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. He disclosed that both Sauron and Halbrand share the same musical theme, which was deliberately composed with the One Ring in mind. Read McCreary's complete statement below.

It is intriguing because I have indeed given it away, provided that you are observant enough. Sauron's theme is essentially Halbrand's theme played in reverse. It is essentially the same. [singing] Yes, it is the same. And I am quite obvious about it, as I repeatedly mention it.

However, despite the similarities, the colors and context differ significantly. The clues, nonetheless, are present. Each character has these grand and soaring musical phrases, except for Sauron. His theme, on the other hand, follows a circular pattern, much like a ring. [singing] It consistently returns to the same note it began with, repeating over and over again. Halbrand's theme does the same, and I believe even your subconscious mind might notice that among all our protagonists, this is the only theme that remains relatively small. Yet, I am doing my utmost to deceive you. I am employing harmony and context, urging you to disregard the notes and perceive him as a hero.

What's Next For Sauron In The Rings Of Power Season 2?

Unveiling the True Identity of Sauron: Spellbinding Revelations in LOTR: Rings Of Power's Opening Episodes

In the season 1 finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Sauron made a failed attempt to persuade Galadriel to join him, offering her the position of queen. However, Galadriel rejected his proposal, resulting in Sauron embarking on a solo journey to the newly-formed Mordor. It is highly anticipated that Sauron will cross paths with the sinister Elf Adar and his legion of Orcs. Nonetheless, it seems improbable that Sauron will form an alliance with Adar, as the Elf had previously claimed to have slain Sauron in an earlier episode.

With the revelation that Halbrand is actually Sauron, it raises questions about the future creation of the remaining Rings of Power in the series. While three Rings were forged in episode 8, titled "Alloyed," of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1, Tolkien's work suggests that Sauron will be involved in the creation of the remaining Rings as well. It is likely that season 2 will depict Sauron assuming a disguise to deceive the Elves into crafting more rings.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power hints at the forging of the One Ring by Sauron, the Ring that possesses control over all other Rings. As the series progresses, Sauron's ascent to power in Middle-earth is inevitable, thanks to the Rings of Power. The future developments in Sauron's story are anticipated with intrigue in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
