Anne Heche appeared posthumously in the September 30th episode of All Rise. Returning as Corinne Cuthbert in the OWN legal drama, she defended an accused serial killer (portrayed by Geoffrey Owens) during his trial. True to her character, Corinne fiercely advocated for her client in Judge Lola Carmichael's courtroom. However, the audience was not shown Corinne's reaction to her client's ultimate conviction.

Lola had a revelation in the climactic closing scene as she discovered that the postcards she had received earlier, which seemed unrelated, actually corresponded to the burial locations of the defendant's victims. The last message suggested that he might be plotting something new in Lola's own backyard, leaving the audience in suspense as the screen faded to black.

The recent episode of All Rise on Saturday did not provide any further details on how they plan to handle the departure of Heche's character following the actress' death. However, the production did pay a heartfelt tribute before the credits rolled, honoring her memory. (It is worth noting that Heche was the final guest star credited in the title sequence, with the distinguished "and" status.)

"In memory of Anne Heche," read the title card, paying tribute to our dear friend and talented artist. Her absence is deeply felt.

In August 2022, we sadly received confirmation of Heche's passing at the age of 53. Following a tragic car accident, she remained in a comatose state until her passing. Heche leaves behind her two sons, Homer and Atlas. (Homer is her child with ex-husband Coley Laffoon, while Atlas was born to her former partner James Tupper).

"My brother Atlas and I have experienced the loss of our beloved Mom. In the midst of six days filled with intense emotional roller coasters, I find myself consumed by a profound sorrow that is indescribable," Homer, who is 20 years old, expressed in a statement. "I hope that my mom has found solace from her pain and is embarking on a journey of eternal liberation, as I like to envision. Throughout those six days, I was touched by the overwhelming outpouring of love and support from countless friends, relatives, and fans. I am deeply grateful for their affection, as well as the unwavering support of my Dad, Coley, and my stepmom Alexi, who remain steadfast pillars during this challenging time."

Earlier this year, Atlas, who is 14 years old, broke his silence and opened up about his feelings. "My mom was the most radiant person I have ever had the privilege of knowing," he shared with the Los Angeles Inquisitor in January. "She possessed an uncanny ability to solve problems and offer assistance to friends. She always knew what was right. Words cannot express how thankful I am or how much I dearly miss her."

A memorial was held in May to honor Heche on Mother's Day at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. Her final resting place was the Cathedral Mausoleum at the cemetery, where a lovely ceremony took place. A representative for the late actress expressed gratitude for the support and love received during this challenging time and thanked everyone for enabling them to commemorate their mother on Mother's Day.

All Rise airs on OWN Saturdays at 9 p.m. ET.
