Unveiling the Skrull Homeworld: The Truth Behind the Invasion

Discover the Skrull homeworld and unravel the mystery behind their invasion of Earth in this gripping article

The highly anticipated Secret Invasion adaptation is one of Marvel's most buzzworthy projects. Featuring a team-up of beloved characters, the saga of the Skrulls promises to be a thrilling ride in the hands of the MCU. However, with the upcoming depiction of the sympathetic Skrulls, it may be worth delving into their world before they attempt to take over ours. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe took its time introducing its deep space catalog, recent projects have increasingly featured aliens. The franchise's expansion began with Guardians of the Galaxy, and it continues to develop outward.

What is the Skrull homeworld?

Skrulls hail from the planet Skrullos, a rocky and mountainous world with a dark red sky. Its architecture is a blend of Roman and eldritch horror, with walled cities and structures resembling living organs. While the MCU has yet to depict Skrullos, a scrapped Avengers tie-in video game concept art showcases a more elaborate version of the planet. This version boasts towering statues, floating cities, and green spires adorning every structure. However, Skrullos suffered a tragic fate in both the comics and the MCU. In the latter, the planet was destroyed during a war with the Kree, who sought to conquer and add the Skrulls to their empire. The Kree's influence allowed them to paint the Skrulls as villains, an easy propaganda campaign given the way the Skrulls chose to survive.

Why are the Skrulls Invading Earth?

The Skrulls, after their homeworld Skrullos was destroyed, became refugees on various other planets. With their ability to shapeshift and perfectly mimic the DNA of any other being, they lived in hiding across the galaxy, making deals with compassionate locals. A group of Skrulls found refuge on a Kree vessel in Earth's orbit under the care of Kree scientist Mar-Vell, known on Earth as Wendy Lawson. When Mar-Vell tragically died, the Skrulls remained on her ship for years, labeled as insidious infiltrators by the Kree. Carol Danvers, as Captain Marvel, took it upon herself to find a new home for the Skrulls throughout the universe, with the help of Nick Fury. However, the process has been slow and some Skrulls have grown impatient. Secret Invasion will depict a group of rebel Skrulls who feel vengeful towards Earth for their inability to properly resettle the refugees, resulting in them infiltrating positions of power on Earth. While not the most morally correct solution, some Skrulls have given up on kindness and are taking what they need.

The Skrulls hail from a world that has been obliterated, making them yet another MCU antagonist who has suffered unjustly. The question remains as to whether they will follow in the footsteps of the one-dimensional Flag Smashers or be depicted as more complex villains. The Skrulls have the potential to be one of Marvel's most fascinating extraterrestrial races for many reasons. Following the annihilation of their home planet, the survivors of this species will adopt a fresh strategy. Secret Invasion is due to debut on Disney Plus on June 21st.
