G’iah, portrayed by Emilia Clarke, is a new character in Secret Invasion, the latest TV project from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This series, based on the comic book storyline of the same name, brings together familiar faces from the MCU, including Nick Fury, Maria Hill, James Rhodes, Everett K. Ross, and Talos.
In Secret Invasion, the plot revolves around Nick Fury uncovering a conspiracy by a group of Skrulls who have infiltrated human society for years with the intention of taking control of Earth. To his surprise, Fury discovers the extent of their infiltration and must join forces with Maria Hill, Ross, and Talos to save humanity. G’iah, who was first introduced in Captain Marvel alongside Talos, will play a significant role in this new story. However, her exact role in the Secret Invasion TV series remains to be seen.
Who Is G'iah In The Marvel Comics?
G’iah, a Skrull specialized agent, made her first appearance in Marvel Comics in Meet the Skrulls #1 in 2019. Alongside her partner Klrr, G’iah was selected to breed and together they raised three daughters on Earth while assuming the identities of an ordinary American family. Unbeknownst to the humans around them, G’iah and her family were part of the Skrulls' invasion plans. During a mission, their youngest daughter was captured and presumed dead by Project Blossom.
To assimilate into human society, G’iah and Klrr disguised themselves as Pepper Potts and Tony Stark, respectively, in order to gather classified information. When their daughter Alice killed an agent from Project Blossom, Klrr assumed his identity to infiltrate the organization and retrieve a device used to locate Skrulls. While inside the Project Blossom facility, G’iah came across Ivy, whose blood had been utilized to identify Skrulls. Sadly, Klrr was betrayed by another Skrull agent named Moloth, who took his place in an attempt to capture G’iah and her daughters. However, Alice managed to kill Moloth. Seeking revenge for Klrr's death, G’iah and her daughters gathered intelligence on the remaining members of Project Blossom and confronted a Kree agent. In the end, they were left alone to wander Earth.
G'iah Is Talos's Daughter In Secret Invasion
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, G'iah's storyline differs from the one depicted in the comics. As previously mentioned, G'iah was first introduced in Captain Marvel, although she had a minor role. In the MCU, G'iah is portrayed as a Skrull and, more importantly, as the daughter of Talos and Soren. Following the destruction of their home planet Skrullos, Talos, Soren, G'iah, and other Skrulls embarked on a journey across the universe in search of a safe haven. They eventually found refuge in Mar-Vell's lab on Earth with the help of rogue Kree scientist Mar-Vell, who became their ally.
However, the location of their hideout remained unknown to other Skrulls until Mar-Vell's murder. Consequently, G'iah was unable to have any contact with her father for the next six years. It was thanks to the efforts of Carol Danvers, Maria Rambeau, and Fury that Talos was able to reunite with his family on Earth. Danvers successfully defeated the Kree armada and saved the surviving Skrulls. The last known sighting of G'iah was at the home of Maria and Monica Rambeau, where she struck up a friendship with a young Monica Rambeau. At the conclusion of Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers offered to protect the Skrulls and assist them in finding a new home planet. This promise will play a significant role in G'iah's involvement in Secret Invasion.
G'iah's Role In Secret Invasion Explained
G’iah, as the daughter of Talos, is expected to align herself with Fury and her father in their battle against the other Skrulls. However, it is uncertain if this will be the case from the beginning. Emilia Clarke, in an interview with Vanity Fair, described G’iah as a hardened character due to her status as a refugee and her relationship with Talos. She also mentioned a rebellious, punk-like vibe associated with G’iah. Clarke further explained that G’iah has grown tired of promises made by Fury and other humans, as they have failed to deliver on their commitments to her and her people over the years. This has led to her harboring a great deal of resentment. The storyline of Secret Invasion reveals that Captain Marvel did not fulfill her promise of finding a new home for the Skrulls, leaving them without a place to settle even after three decades have passed since the Kree-Skrull conflict depicted in Captain Marvel.
While not much has been shown about G’iah's role in the conflict through the trailer and teasers for Secret Invasion, she consistently appears in her human form and is frequently seen armed with weapons. G’iah will need to confront personal issues and make a difficult decision before she can firmly choose a side. In the MCU, G’iah's character will differ significantly from her portrayal in the comics, allowing Marvel to delve deeper into her story and provide a more intricate narrative.
