Over the last 35 years, Venom has become one of Spider-Man's most iconic and beloved foes, and certain aspects of the character have become widely recognized staples, transcending most iterations. However, in a unique twist from Insomniac Games, the upcoming Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will not feature Eddie Brock as Venom's host.

Venom's Identity in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Seems Pretty Clear Already

Unveiling the Mysterious Identity of Venom in Insomniac Games’ Latest Release

In Marvel's Spider-Man 2, the true identity of Venom has been speculated among fans for the past five years. In the prequel game, Marvel's Spider-Man, it is revealed that Harry Osborn disappeared after being diagnosed with a fatal illness, only to be discovered in a secret lab filled with a green liquid and a black substance that appeared to move on its own - a Symbiote, known to fans as an alien parasite that can create Venom. The post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Miles Morales provides further insight into Harry's situation, as his father, Norman Osborn, attempts to free him from the lab against medical advice, only for the Symbiote to fully bond with Harry, leaving little doubt for many fans that he will become Venom in the upcoming game.

The newly released concept art for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 features a fight between Venom, Peter, and Miles, with a seemingly unassuming billboard in the bottom left corner. However, eagle-eyed fans will notice that the billboard references two central characters in the game: Aunt May and Emily Osborn, Harry's mother who died from the same illness that now threatens Harry. The intentional placement of this billboard and its clear writing could be a clever, subtle hint towards the identity of Venom, potentially revealing that both Peter Parker and Harry Osborn are in the same frame. Alternatively, it could be a surprise twist with Norman Osborn in the Venom suit instead, throwing off fans who have been anticipating the Green Goblin.

Spider-Man 2 launches October 20, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
