The fascinating link between Dipplin's potential evolution and mythology, coupled with its Dragon-type, brings an intriguing element to the game, particularly if the evolution genuinely possesses seven heads.
The Teal Mask DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet was widely regarded as a success, especially considering the disappointment of the Isle of Armor for the Generation 8 games. While not groundbreaking, it offers an engaging story and introduces new creatures for players to capture. One standout Pokemon in The Teal Mask is Dipplin, an intriguing evolution of the cross-generation Applin. Dipplin has garnered significant attention for multiple reasons, including being the only Generation 9 pocket monster with a unique "shiny" signature move. Additionally, there is strong speculation from leakers that Dipplin will evolve in The Indigo Disk, further fueling interest. The confirmation of Dipplin's evolution comes from its ability to utilize the Eviolite, an item specifically beneficial for unevolved Pokemon that can still evolve. Initially believed to be a glitch, the lack of mention regarding bug fixes suggests that this mechanic is intentional. Notably, the respected Pokemon leaker Riddler Khu has dropped hints about a Dipplin evolution, with the latest rumors suggesting it will have seven heads.
Why Dipplin's Leaked Evolution Could Have 7 Heads in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Dipplin's potential evolution in a future DLC is not a new idea, considering Pokemon Sword and Shield's Galarian Slowking was introduced in the Crown Tundra expansion after Galarian Slowbro. What sets Dipplin apart is The Teal Mask's Pokedex entry, which reveals that this creature is actually comprised of two wyrms residing within a candy apple, with one serving as the tail and the other as the head. There are rumors that when Dipplin evolves with the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Indigo Disk, it may gain not just one, but an additional five heads.
These rumors stem from the recent series of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet riddles presented by Riddler Khu, which focus on multi-headed creatures, starting with a single-headed critter. The final two riddles were particularly intricate and captivating. The sixth riddle revolved around Falinks, the sole Generation 8 Pokemon not included in a picture by Khu, and depicted a Spartan-like creature composed of six individual units, each with its own head and body. The seventh riddle featured a QR code for Barbanacle, a Pokemon comprised of seven combined Binacle heads - two serving as feet, four as arms, and one as the primary head.
Khu also indicated that this marked the conclusion of the riddle series, leading fans to speculate that it had something to do with a new Pokemon featuring seven heads. One popular theory was that it related to the Original Dragon in Pokemon Black and White, and that a three-headed creature would serve as the mascot for a new game called Pokemon Legends Unova or possibly a sequel or remake. However, this theory was proven incorrect. While Hydreigon would be a viable contender, the creature most likely being referred to in this riddle is Dipplin, particularly due to its Indigo Disk evolution.
Considering that the initial form of Dipplin already possesses two heads, the idea of its evolution having seven heads is not implausible, especially given the theme of hydra-like creatures. While there are several mythical creatures associated with having seven heads, such as dragons, hydras are commonly depicted with a total of nine heads, although the number can vary. It is highly unlikely that Dipplin's evolution is a new Mythical Pokemon in The Indigo Disk DLC, but its connection to mythology and its classification as a Dragon-type Pokemon has an intriguing aspect if Game Freak does indeed grant the evolution seven heads in total.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
