Megumi Fushiguro, a member of the Zenin clan in Jujutsu Kaisen, harnesses the prestigious Ten Shadows Technique to summon powerful shikigami. Below is an explanation and ranking of all 10 of Megumi's shikigami.

The Ten Shadows technique is considered one of the most powerful cursed energy techniques in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. It is respected by all sorcerers, including Ryomen Sukuna, and allows the user to summon 10 unique shikigami - monstrous creatures resembling cursed spirits that can be summoned to fight.

From its incredible potential to its status among special grade curses, let's explore Megumi’s Ten Shadows Technique and his most formidable shikigami.

What is Megumi’s Ten Shadows Technique?

The technique known as the Ten Shadows Technique has been passed down through the generations of the Zenin Family. This technique enables the user to summon ten distinct shikigami to assist them in battle, whether it be for offensive or defensive purposes.

In order to accomplish this, the user needs to use a specific hand sign to create a shadow puppet that imitates the familiar they wish to summon. The shadow then serves as a conduit, allowing the familiar to materialize with the assistance of cursed energy.

However, there are some limitations to this technique. Before a user can summon a shikigami at will, they must first exorcize it. Additionally, once a shikigami is killed, it cannot be summoned by that user again. For instance, in season 1, one of Megumi's Divine Dogs was killed by a cursed spirit, preventing Megumi from summoning the dog again.

Shikigami users typically struggle in close-range combat as their shikigami serve as their main offense and defense, although Megumi is a rare exception. In addition, the Ten Shadows Technique allows users to partially control shadows, allowing for the concealment of items and even the user's own body. This ability gives Megumi the advantage of moving unnoticed and hiding numerous weapons as needed.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Megumi’s 10 shikigami ranked

The manga revealed all 10 of Megumi’s shikigami back in April 2023. So, here are all 10 ranked from weakest to most powerful.

10. Gama (Toad)

Gama, a human-sized toad-like creature, made its debut in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 Episode 4. Described as "quite weak" by Megumi, Gama serves as a supportive shikigami, using its size and long tongue to protect Megumi from powerful attacks.

9. Datto (Rabbit Escape)

Throughout our observation, Megumi has demonstrated the versatile use of Gamma for a multitude of purposes, such as search and rescue missions, utilizing its tongue for opponent restraint, protection against aggressive sorcerers, extracting individuals from dangerous situations, and serving as a shield to ward off potential harm for Megumi.

As another support shikigami, Rabbit Escape is extremely useful as an evasive technique. Although, like gama (toad) isn’t amazing for offensive purposes.

8. Nue

The method essentially summons a large group of rabbits to overwhelm Megumi’s opponent, giving him a valuable distraction to either find cover or strategize his next actions.

Based on the “chimera” in Japanese folklore, Nue is one of the first shikigami that Jujutsu Kaisen fans were introduced to, debuting in Season 1 Episode 4 of the anime.

Nue is a massive bird-like creature with electrified wings, orange feathers, and a skull-like white mask. Its ability to fly makes it one of Megumi's most versatile shikigami, capable of offense, defense, escape, and reconnaissance. Although it may seem like Nue should rank higher, it excels as a support shikigami, as demonstrated when working with Max Elephant against Noritishi Kamo.

7. Orochi (Snake)

Shueisha

The name Orochi means "big snake," and in Jujutsu Kaisen, it is depicted as a colossal serpent known as the Great Serpent or snake shikigami. This enormous creature emerges from the ground and has the ability to swallow large curses whole due to its immense size. Megumi summons Orochi to neutralize curses that posed a threat to Nobara, demonstrating its immense power and strength.

6. Bansho (Max Elephant)

This is the initial offensive shikigami featured on the roster. Nonetheless, it will not be the final one. Regrettably, Sukuna annihilated this shikigami in Episode 5, resulting in us being unable to witness its complete capabilities.

Keeping with the giant animal theme, the next shikigami on this list is a humungous pink elephant.

The elephant has the ability to unleash a powerful stream of water from its trunk, capable of blasting through solid walls. Its immense size also allows it to crush any enemy. Despite its strength, the amount of cursed energy needed to summon Max Elephant prevents it from ranking higher. Additionally, its size poses a significant risk to the summoner.

5. Kangyu (Piercing Ox)

Warning: Minor spoiler! The character Piercing Ox has not been introduced in the anime.

Piercing Ox is a formidable offensive shikigami with the appearance of an ox. Its method of attack involves charging at its target, gaining strength the longer it has to run. However, it is limited to moving only in a straight line.

We haven’t seen Piercing Ox in the anime yet. However, it appears in Chapter 218 of the manga when Sukuna uses it to attack sorcerer Yorozu.

3 & 4. Kon (Divine Dogs)

The initial shikigami that we encountered in Jujutsu Kaisen were The Divine Dogs. They hold great significance as the primary manifestation of Megumi’s Ten Shadows Technique and are considered to be extremely loyal canines.

2. Madoka (Round Deer)

During Megumi’s mission at the Eishu Juvenile Detention Center, a special grade curse resulted in the death of the white dog. However, when a shikigami dies, its power is transferred to another. In this case, the white dog’s abilities were transferred to the black dog, creating Megumi’s most attack-focused shikigami – Divine Dog Totality.

Slight spoiler alert! This shikigami hasn’t appeared in the anime yet.

Round Deer is a formidable shikigami known for its remarkable healing abilities. As the top-ranked support-based shikigami, it can reverse curses to heal injuries and even disrupt an opponent's control over physical objects. Round Deer makes its first appearance in Chapter 218 of the manga, assisting Sukuna in his fight against Yorozu.

1. Macora (Mahoraga)

So, what’s the most powerful shikigami in Jujutsu Kaisen?

The Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga is as much of a handful as its name is a mouthful.

First introduced in Episode 40 of the anime, Mahoraga is a shikigami that has never been successfully controlled in the history of Jujutsu Kaisen. However, it can be utilized as a last resort in battle for an exorcism ritual, similar to Megumi's use against Haruto Shigemo.

What makes Mahoraga so formidable is its versatility - it is not confined to a single ability, and is capable of utilizing all related techniques as well as regenerating itself, making it nearly indestructible. The only exception to this is when facing Ryomen Sukuna.

Megumi's ability to harness this prestigious technique and utilize each shikigami's unique abilities strategically sets him apart as a compelling character.

The Ten Shadows Technique, passed down through generations of the Zenin Family, allows Megumi to summon ten distinct shikigami, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. The summoning process, involving specific hand signs and cursed energy, adds depth and complexity to the technique. The limitations imposed, such as the need to exorcise shikigami before summoning them at will and the inability to resurrect fallen shikigami, create a sense of consequence and raise the stakes in Megumi's battles.
