Galactus is likely to make his debut in the MCU soon, but will he stay true to his Marvel Comics roots or undergo a complete transformation? With the arrival of the MCU’s Fantastic Four, it appears that Galactus is not far away. The devourer of worlds has posed a longstanding threat to Earth and has been a recurring adversary for the Fantastic Four to conquer.

The World Devourer, also known as Galactus, first appeared in Fantastic Four #48 alongside his herald, the Silver Surfer. Since then, Galactus has made multiple appearances in various comics and events over the years. Despite often being depicted as a foe, his immense power and intimidating presence have solidified him as one of Marvel's most memorable and challenging monsters, remaining a necessary evil of sorts.

Galactus powers in Marvel Comics

Galactus is essentially a physical powerhouse. According to the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: Fantastic Four, he is almost 29 feet tall and weighs slightly over 18 tons, although these measurements can fluctuate. Additionally, he possesses superhuman strength, speed, and durability.

While Galactus is a terrifying force and universe-level threat, he’s still not really a cosmic being. Galactus was originally Galan, a genetically engineered warrior from the planet Taa. Any attack that would compromise the Power Cosmic runs the risk of reverting back to Galan.

His hunger is a significant factor in relation to his power. Despite his strength, Galactus is always in need of sustenance, relying on the life force of planets to maintain his powers. If he goes without feeding for too long, his abilities can be significantly compromised.

Furthermore, Galactus is not impervious to the most formidable weapons in the galaxy. His fear of the Watchers’ ultimate weapon, the Ultimate Nullifier, is well-documented, and he has also been proven to be vulnerable to the power of the Infinity Gauntlet, just like any other being in the Marvel Universe.
