Andrew Walker anticipated that his fans would greatly appreciate his Christmas Island candy cane tribute to his friend Tyler Hynes, and it was completely spontaneous. In an exclusive interview with We, the 44-year-old actor revealed how the scene unfolded on Tuesday, November 14, as he was promoting his collaboration with Envy Apples. "Playing the role of Mr. Christmas, my character is fully immersed in the spirit of Christmas," Walker explained. "While preparing to film the scene, I suddenly had the idea of adding more festive elements to my costume, as I was initially only wearing a jacket."

Walker, who portrays Oliver MacLeod, a character with a deep affection for the holidays, in the upcoming Hallmark film set for release in 2023, remembers believing that his costume lacked the sufficient essence of Christmas spirit.

"I thought to myself, 'Oh no, this character is all about Christmas cheer. Let's embellish him with festive items. Let's wrap a wreath around his neck or tie a ribbon,'" he shared. "However, even with these additions, I still felt like there was something missing. I didn't feel complete."

Ultimately, Walker found his muse within the very set he stood upon. His inspiration derived from a combination of the set itself and the cherished memories he shared with Hynes, who played a vital role in 2022's Three Wise Men and a Baby. It is worth noting that Hynes and Walker's bond spans over several years and extends beyond mere friendship - they are actually related. This connection deepens as Walker's wife, Cassandra Troy, happens to be one of Hynes' cousins.

As I gazed at the Christmas tree, I noticed some candy canes adorning its branches. In that instant, a thought struck me. I thought to myself, "Why not pay homage to Tyler and mimic his candy cane chewing from the film Three Wise Men?" The actor shared this insight with Us, expressing his certainty that viewers would enjoy seeing him and Tyler teasing each other or making cameo appearances together.

In the film Three Wise Men and a Baby, Hynes had a memorable habit of chewing on a candy cane or dangling it from his mouth. In a playful nod to this peculiar trait, Walker decided to do his own rendition while decorating and cracking jokes about the festive season on Christmas Island.

Following a few takes of the scene, my costar Rachel Skarsten expressed her surprise, stating, 'This character is the most peculiar individual I have ever acted alongside.' In response, I jokingly acknowledged the resemblance between my character and my own eccentric personality, as life often imitates art.

Walker expressed his gratitude towards Hynes in the film and emphasized the significance of Christmas Island to him. He praised the people in Halifax and the maritime crews for their generosity and willingness to go above and beyond. This movie holds a special place in Hallmark's history as it is the first time they have filmed in Canada and acknowledged the location as Nova Scotia and Christmas Island. The Sweet Autumn star described each day of filming as an exciting and spontaneous adventure. Working with Rachel, who was eager to fully engage in the role, added a unique and special element to the movie.

Walker considers Christmas Island to be one of his top three favorite Hallmark projects. According to him, any film he has done with Nikki DeLoach is always a top pick. A Dream of Christmas holds a special place for them as it was their first movie together and he finds the story to be heartfelt, making it his second choice. Additionally, Three Wise Men and a Baby is another one of his top Hallmark movies.

The iconic film "Three Wise Men" will be airing an extended cut this holiday season on the network. In addition, the Hallmark Movies Now showing on Monday, November 27 will include a special appearance by Envy Apples, thanks to Walker's recent partnership with the produce brand. Walker expressed excitement about the collaboration, mentioning that Envy Apples have made hidden appearances in some of his other movies, but in "Three Wise Men" they will be specifically highlighted with Envy branding. This integration of the Envy brand into the beloved Hallmark movie is thrilling for Walker, and he is delighted to have them involved.
