Players of Diablo 4 are expressing dissatisfaction with the low resell value of gems. Despite the overall positive reception of Diablo 4 since its launch in June, fans are still voicing their opinions on aspects of the game that have not met their expectations. However, Blizzard, as a live service title, has been proactive in adjusting and fine-tuning mechanics, including a recent enhancement to all Diablo 4 classes. As the first season of Diablo 4 approaches, fans continue to share their thoughts and desires for the game's future development. Suggestions range from minor updates, such as adjustments to existing shrines, to addressing more significant issues like lag and rubberbanding. The latest topic of discussion among fans revolves around gems, following a recent debate on the amount of inventory space these items occupy.
A user named lightwolf recently posted on the Diablo 4 subReddit, questioning the low value of gems in general. They pointed out that Diamonds, for example, should have higher value. They included an image showing that a Flawless Diamond sells for a surprisingly low amount of 16 gold pieces. This has left many players confused since Flawless gems are only one level below the highest gem type in Diablo 4, called Royal.
Some commenters have tried to explain this issue by suggesting that gems are meant to serve more as a distraction in loot rather than being valuable in themselves. Many agreed that the intentionally lower bonuses on gems are meant to encourage players to use them more frequently, rather than selling them for profit. Some also expressed their disappointment that high level gems have level requirements, as it would have been fun to use them on low level alternate characters in Diablo 4.

One major concern within the community is the gear reroll system for Item Affixes. By allowing players to exchange item bonuses for a fee, players have discovered that taking a risk on replacing a stat doesn't always yield the desired outcome. Unfortunately, there is no way to protect against the possibility of receiving worse bonuses or ones that are no longer beneficial to a specific build. Players of Diablo 4 are requesting that Blizzard implement a preview system to show potential affixes that may be obtained, in order to minimize the element of chance.
Diablo 4 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
