In Assassin's Creed Mirage, the cartographer is a familiar merchant type that aids players in locating hidden collectibles on the map. However, there have been notable changes since the last appearance of this character.
Unlike previous entries, there is now only one cartographer in all of Assassin's Creed Mirage. As a result, players must actively search for the cartographer as he is not easily stumbled upon. This guide will provide the necessary information on the cartographer's whereabouts and the extent of his assistance for players aiming to achieve a complete game experience.
How to Find the Cartographer
The single cartographer in Assassin's Creed Mirage can be found in the Round City territory, located southeast of the Palace of the Green Dome. His stall is situated on the main street that runs from the southeast gate to the palace walls. It is worth noting that his stall is closer to the palace than to the gate. To locate him, players can look for a star symbol on the map or compass, which is consistent with symbols used to indicate other merchants. This symbol is visible on the medium and close zoom levels of the map.
Players should be aware that all four gates leading into the Round City are off-limits for Basim. Therefore, the only way to enter is through stealth. Fortunately, there are alternate paths on the upper levels of the three functional gates that players can utilize to avoid drawing attention from the guards. While the Khurasan Gate Guardhouse is closed to traffic, stealthy players can still infiltrate this area without engaging in combat with the guards.
What the Cartographer Offers
The cartographer offers a selection of maps categorized by territory and the type of collectibles they reveal. By purchasing one, players can uncover the location of a collectible on the game map. These locations may require zooming in, but they are guaranteed to be present. To unlock a region's maps in the cartographer's inventory, players must visit that region at least once. Apart from enigmas, gear chests, and lost books, there are additional collectibles like Mysterious Shards and Tales of Baghdad that players must discover without the aid of the cartographer.
The cartographer is unable to assist players in solving enigma riddles or unraveling the mysteries of gear chests and lost books. Although his maps can guide players in the correct direction, they do not offer any instructions or additional clues.
Furthermore, unlike the majority of merchants in the game who accept silver coins, the cartographer exclusively accepts Scholar Tokens. Each map requires one Scholar Token as payment.
If players have already discovered the location of any collectible (indicated by its symbol appearing on the map or compass), the cartographer will not sell a map for that particular item. For example, if a player has found all the gear chests in the game, even if they haven't opened them all, the cartographer will not have any gear chest maps available for sale.
The cartographer can greatly simplify the collection process by providing the locations of various items, eliminating the need for guesswork and aimless wandering. Therefore, players should not be swayed by the "Suggested Rank: Assassin" for the Round City and instead, it is advisable to find the cartographer early on. By accumulating a few Scholar Tokens through pickpocketing, players will be able to locate all the gear chests, lost books, and enigmas present in the game.
Assassin's Creed Mirage is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
