Konami has revealed a list of known issues in Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, including subtitle typos and buggy triggers in certain cutscenes.
The remastered versions for PC do not currently offer the choice between windowed and full-screen mode, and Metal Gear Solid 2 may encounter noticeable slowdowns in certain cutscenes. Additionally, there are synchronization issues with bonus content, like subtitles in cutscenes. However, Konami intends to resolve these problems through future patches. The impact of these issues on the initial performance remains uncertain, given the cost of $60.
Konami has provided a comprehensive list of known problems that players may encounter in the initial release of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1. This collection includes five Metal Gear games and is set to launch on October 24.
In September, Konami had already tried to manage the expectations of fans by announcing that their version of Metal Gear Solid would only run at 30 frames per second on all platforms. The company did not specify the reasons behind their inability to achieve a smoother performance for this remastered edition of a game that is 25 years old.
A day prior to the release of Master Collection Vol. 1, Konami has officially acknowledged a series of known problems that will impact the upcoming remasters. The list, presented by IGN, highlights several issues with the MGS3 remaster, including subtitle errors in all EU language localizations and glitches with background music triggers in specific cutscenes. Additionally, there might be a timing delay with an undisclosed visual effect, which is reported to also affect the remasters of the first two MGS games. Based on the provided description, it appears that Konami is referring to the iconic red exclamation mark that appears above the heads of MGS guards when they spot the player.
Additionally, upon its initial release, the PC remasters of the first three MGS games and the MSX2 versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 will not provide the option to switch between windowed and full-screen formats. It is worth noting that Metal Gear Solid 2 may experience significant slowdowns during certain cutscenes. Moreover, Konami has acknowledged the presence of various unidentified bugs affecting all 3D remasters, and their resolution is currently pending.
As for the bonus content included in Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, it too is not without its issues. Specifically, the subtitles in certain Metal Gear and Snake's Revenge cutscenes have not been correctly synchronized with the audio. However, Konami intends to rectify this problem through a future patch, similar to their approach in addressing other launch-related concerns. Furthermore, Snake's Revenge and the SNES version of Metal Gear will receive additional graphics options after their release, such as an aspect ratio selector and a CRT-style scan line filter.
Konami has made a promise to address the recently identified problems, but they have not specified a time frame for resolving them. While it is commendable that they have been transparent about these issues, it is uncertain how this will affect the launch performance of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, especially considering its $60 price tag. The collection will be available on October 24 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
