The upcoming remake of Persona 3 will provide players with a deeper understanding of Strega, an antagonistic and dangerous group featured in the game. While their presence may not be as prominent as the Shadows, their actions throughout the game highlight their menacing nature. The remake has hinted at offering a closer look at Strega, which could potentially give them a larger role. This may also enhance an existing side plot. Regardless, players should familiarize themselves with Strega's significance. While Persona 3 Reload may not be remaking The Answer, it is expected to include most of the original plot and potentially expand on it. As a game that pioneered many trends in the series, Persona 3 holds a significant place as a benchmark. It possesses unique aspects, such as Tartarus as a colossal dungeon and the Full Moon shadows serving as boss encounters. Strega stands out as a threat that has not been replicated in later games.
Strega's Past is Tragic in Persona 3 Reload, But They're Serious Opponents
Strega can be viewed as a distorted reflection of the party members in Persona 3. They form a group of antagonistic individuals who possess Personas. The group consists of Chidori, a stylish artist, Jin, an intense strategist, and Takaya, their enigmatic leader. Throughout the game, they repeatedly oppose the protagonists, though Chidori ultimately breaks away from the group due to inner conflict. Undeterred, Takaya and Jin continue their pursuits, with Takaya assuming the role of a cult figure, spreading his nihilistic beliefs. While not the main threat, Strega presents a significant obstacle for the S.E.E.S. team to overcome.
Strega's backstory holds great importance in the lore of Persona 3. In their childhood, Takaya, Chidori, and Jin were subjects of an experiment conducted by the Kirijo Group, overseen by Kouetsu Kirijo, Mitsuru's grandfather and a member of S.E.E.S. The experiment aimed to awaken their Personas through unconventional methods, resulting in catastrophic consequences. Only the three individuals who eventually form Strega managed to survive the process, but their lifespans were significantly reduced due to the nature of their Personas. This unjust fate led them to become embittered and hedonistic, transforming into Persona-wielding assassins who confront S.E.E.S.
Despite their intriguing backstory, Strega lacked sufficient screen time to fully showcase their characters. However, Persona 3 Reload's latest trailer hints at a greater focus on Strega, offering the opportunity to delve deeper into their individual personalities and the formation of their current worldview. This could also have implications for one of the significant storylines involving Strega, particularly Chidori's relationship with Junpei and the possibility of her death. The original plotline's payoff, if Chidori survived, was minimal, but Persona 3 Reload aims to address that and enhance the story.
When it comes to human antagonists, Strega in Persona 3 were formidable foes, although they suffered from inadequate screen presence. With the new additions in Persona 3 Reload, Strega's narrative could finally do justice to this faction. Not only do they present an intriguing rival concept, but the circumstances that led to their creation were notably horrific, especially considering that it was caused by a member of one of the main characters' families. This provides an interesting angle to explore further. In Persona 3 Reload, Strega may have the opportunity to appear even more formidable than before.
Persona 3 Reload will be released on February 2, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
