Google has just unveiled the Pixel 8 series and Pixel Watch 2, but that's not all the excitement in the Android device world today. Samsung has surprised us with four new affordable devices under its "Fan Edition" brand: the Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Tab S9 FE and S9+ FE, and Galaxy Buds FE.
Let's start with the Galaxy S23 FE, which marks the return of the Fan Edition lineup after a hiatus last year (likely due to chip shortages). The previous release, the S21 FE, didn't receive great feedback. However, this model presents a slightly scaled-down version of the Galaxy S23. It boasts a 6.4-inch AMOLED 120Hz display, three rear cameras (including a 50MP primary sensor), 8GB of RAM, storage options of 128GB or 256GB, a 4,500mAh battery, Android 13 operating system, and an IP68 water resistance rating.
The phone, priced at $599, is $200 cheaper than the regular Galaxy S23. It boasts some improvements over the regular S23, such as a larger battery and display. However, it does have an older Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and slightly inferior cameras. Samsung promises four major Android updates and five years of security updates, which is the same as their other flagship phones but falls short compared to the $699 Pixel 8, which offers seven years of OS updates and security patches.
Samsung has also introduced the Galaxy Tab S9 FE, an Android tablet with a 10.9-inch screen, and the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ with an even bigger 12.4-inch display. Both models feature a 90Hz refresh rate, IP68 water resistance rating, a microSD card slot for expandable storage, and an included S Pen stylus. The Tab S9 FE comes in variations of 6GB RAM with 128GB storage or 8GB RAM with 256GB storage. On the other hand, the Tab S9 FE+ starts with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage but also offers an option with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.
The Galaxy Buds FE are the company's latest affordable true wireless earbuds, priced at $99. They offer active noise cancellation (ANC), ambient sound pass-through, and an impressive 8.5-hour battery life on a single charge (30 hours with the case).
The Galaxy S23 FE is slated for release on October 5, followed by the Galaxy Tab S9 FE series and Buds FE on October 10.
