Get Ready for Exciting Samsung News on Your Galaxy

Get ready for a revamped Samsung Free app on your Galaxy device! With consolidated and enhanced features, the news reader and media content app is set to deliver even more personalized and relevant content to your fingertips

Samsung has revamped its news reader app, previously known as Samsung Free, and rebranded it as Samsung News. The app offers a range of media content, and will now include consolidated features for an enhanced user experience. The update is currently being rolled out to Samsung devices in the United States, and for those who don't have the older app, Samsung News can be downloaded directly from the Galaxy Store.

The updated Samsung News app functions similarly to Google Feed and Apple News, curating news articles that align with your interests. In addition, there is a personalized “Following” tab that allows you to select your preferred sources. To enhance the user experience, Samsung has enlisted a team of experienced news editors to deliver daily briefings in the morning and evening, featuring the most important headlines of the day. The app also boasts a collection of both entertainment and news podcasts, similar to its predecessor Samsung Free, but without the live TV and games hub. However, this omission is inconsequential as there are numerous alternative ways to access games on Galaxy devices, and the same live channels can be found on Samsung TV Plus, which comes pre-installed on some Galaxy devices.

For a more comprehensive experience in keeping up with your preferred news sources and podcasts, it is advisable to opt for dedicated apps that offer a wider range of features. While the updated app may appear to be a direct rival to Apple News, it falls short in comparison to options like Pocket Casts, Google Podcasts, and Spotify, which all boast cross-platform capabilities. Additionally, apps like Feedly or Google Feed/Discover can assist in staying up-to-date on current events.
