The Problem with Overwatch 2's Season 7 Hanzo Mythic Skin
Season 7 of Overwatch 2 is scheduled to launch on October 10. Dedicated players will be working hard to progress through the season's battle pass in order to earn the highly coveted mythic skin, Onryo Hanzo. This particular skin transforms the DPS hero into a ghostly figure, inspired by the vengeful spirits known as Onryos in Japanese culture. The skin includes unique firing noises and voice lines for Hanzo, emphasizing the eerie and supernatural theme of Season 7. However, it seems that the customization options for the skin are somewhat limited, consisting only of different bow designs and a choice between blue, orange, or gray color schemes for Hanzo's appearance.
Hanzo’s bow is also affected by these alternative color schemes, adding to the appeal of mythic skins that offer weapon customization. However, some fans have noticed an inconsistency in the level of customization options between different mythic skins in Overwatch 2. For instance, the previous season's mythic skin was for the support hero Ana, which allowed for two weapon choices, three significant armor variants, and three overall color schemes.
The mythic Tracer skin from Season 5 followed a similar pattern, although the base skin was unlocked at battle pass tier 45, and the customization features were unlocked as players progressed. While Hanzo had options for customizing tattoos, hair, and armor, the trailer for his mythic skin only emphasized the three color variants. It is possible that more customization features will be revealed in the coming days. However, it poses a significant issue if Hanzo's mythic skin only offers general color personalization options and limited weapon choices.
Many people purchase battle passes primarily for their associated mythic skins, and it is concerning from a consumer perspective that there is inconsistent information about what each mythic skin offers. Fans deserve to have a uniform range of customization options for all mythic skins, considering they are all priced the same as a premium battle pass. Each hero has the potential to offer the same level of customization as Ana, so there is no reason for Hanzo to receive fewer options. While mythic skins are a great reward for consistent Overwatch 2 play, there should be measures in place to ensure that fans always receive the same value for their money.
