Overwatch 2's free Underworld event introduces a new modifier called Ultimate Zones, where players must occupy marked zones on the ground to charge up their ultimate abilities.
Players must engage in combat with enemies within the designated zones in order to gradually accumulate ultimate charge, thereby introducing an additional level of difficulty to the game.
The choice of heroes provided for this altered Underworld mission is carefully planned, with Roadhog and Ashe proving to be particularly formidable within the ultimate circles.
The free Underworld event in Overwatch 2 is getting a new and exciting modifier for the limited-time mode. As part of the Invasion update, which brought various additions like PvE missions, the Flashpoint mode, and the new hero Illari, Underworld came to the game as the largest seasonal update yet.
Underworld is a free mode where players collaborate to construct the TS-1 robot for the Push mode and safely escort it through an expanded section of the King's Row map. Initially, the mission featured Winston, Tracer, Torbjorn, and Lucio as playable heroes. However, it is now being updated every week with different heroes and modifiers. Last week, the Death From Above variant introduced a modifier that required players to evade deadly missile attacks while still completing the task of building and guiding TS-1 to the end of King's Row. The variant also provided a different roster of heroes to select from, including Reinhardt, D.Va, Soldier: 76, Genji, Mercy, and Brigitte.
Overwatch 2 recently took to Twitter to announce its latest variant mission called Ultimate Zones in the Underworld. This new twist adds a modifier where players must occupy marked zones on the ground to charge up their ultimate abilities. The Ultimate Zones mission in the Underworld allows players to choose one tank, Roadhog, three DPS heroes including Ashe, Cassidy, and Junkrat, and two supports in Baptiste and Moira.
What makes this mission interesting is that simply standing in the randomly spawned blue ultimate circles on the ground will not be enough to gain charge. Players must actively damage enemies while inside these circles to actually build up their ultimate charge. Depending on the hero, this can happen quite quickly. However, the blue circles only last for a few seconds before players need to either find a new one or wait for them to respawn. The selection of heroes available for this modified Underworld mission is strategic. Roadhog players, for example, can use their ability to pull enemies closer to them while inside a circle to ensure they inflict enough damage to build their ultimate. Additionally, Ashe proves to be a valuable choice as she can pick off enemies from a distance using her rifle or ignite them with her dynamite explosion.
Only a small number of Overwatch 2 players have managed to achieve victory in Invasion's PvE story missions on Legendary difficulty, and it is expected that the same will be true for Underworld. The addition of the new Ultimate Zones modifier will undoubtedly present an even more daunting challenge for players on Legendary, requiring careful strategizing with specific heroes and abilities within the ultimate circles. As the event nears its conclusion, players can anticipate the unveiling of the third and final Underworld modifier next week. Overwatch 2 is currently accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
