Apple has been gradually transitioning its Mac computers to Apple Silicon chips over the past three years, including the M1 and M2. With the release of two new computers, the Mac Pro is no longer the only Intel-based Mac available. The Mac Studio, a compact yet powerful unit, is now available with either the M2 Max or the new M2 Ultra chip options. With up to 192GB of RAM, 8TB of storage, and a 76-core GPU, it is a top contender for the most powerful computer on the market.

Apple's new Mac Pro is now available at a relatively lower price and is just as powerful as the previous Intel model, according to Apple. The M2 Ultra SoC powers it, which has 24 CPU cores, four cores less than the best Intel Xeon chip outfitted on the previous model. However, Apple claims that it should still perform better. In fact, Apple promises that it will have the performance of approximately seven Afterburner cards, despite not having any dedicated GPUs.

The Mac Pro's major improvement over the Mac Studio is its ability for PCI Express expansion. It provides a total of seven PCI Express 16x slots, with six of them open out of the box and featuring Gen 4 speeds. This allows you to expand your computer to your heart's content. Although Gen 5 would have been ideal, Gen 4 is still pretty fast.

When it comes to purchasing an Apple Mac, there are a few options to consider. The Mac Studio base model is priced at $1,999 while the maxed-out version can cost up to $8,799. On the other hand, the Mac Pro starts at $6,999 and its top-of-the-line model reaches an astonishing $12,199. Although these prices may seem steep, it's worth noting that the previous Intel model could exceed $50K when fully expanded with RAM and expansion cards. Therefore, investing in a newer model could actually be a more cost-effective choice.
