Apex Legends' Revenant, known for his dark and serious persona in the game, received a rework that not only revamped his abilities but also took his storyline in a new direction. His new Ultimate Ability, called Forged Shadows, cleverly alludes to his past while progressing the character's narrative. Recently, during a roundtable discussion with Respawn Entertainment's writer Jaclyn Seto and designer Evan Funnell, they confirmed the hidden inside joke in the ability, affirming that it was intentional. Revenant's introduction was initially overshadowed by the announcement of a different character, Forge, leading to a surprise twist when Revenant was revealed to be the true Season 4 character. Revenant's new ability pays homage to this unexpected twist, adding a playful element to the game.

Revenant's new ability, which adds strength and protection, complements the joke in Apex Legends. Funnell explained that this alignment was intentional, as Revenant has a backstory and history with Forge, as evidenced by the Easter egg animation in his reworked heirloom. The ability symbolizes Revenant's need for protection and strength, showcasing a shroud of shadows. This coincidence with Forge's name further emphasized the connection.

While this lighthearted touch of humor is completely meta and can be enjoyed by fans, it's evident that Revenant's future is far from filled with laughter. In anticipation of the current season, Revenant started experiencing glitches, causing concern about the state of his mind. His source code was last known to be sent by Loba through a phase runner to her friend Jaime. However, things didn't unfold exactly as planned, resulting in Eduardo Silva now possessing the source code. As for Silva's intentions and motivations, they remain uncertain at this time. Apex Legends season 18 and beyond will see the continued development of the story. Seto confirms that the Kill Code story for Apex Legends will conclude by the end of the year, but this does not mean the overarching narrative is finished. Respawn Entertainment is highly enthusiastic about Kill Code and Revenant, with Seto explaining how the studio arrived at the final concept:

"The narrative team has always found Revenant to be an intriguing character, especially given the conflict between him and Loba. We explored numerous ideas on how their story, particularly Revenant's, could unfold. However, one idea for the finale of Kill Code stood out to us all and complemented his upcoming rework, so that became our chosen direction."

It will be intriguing to witness the conclusion of Kill Code and what lies ahead beyond that, along with the ongoing involvement of Forge in Revenant's story. Maybe Kill Code will surprise us by bringing back Forge for a final twist. Although this scenario seems highly unlikely, fans will have to patiently wait to discover what surprises Respawn Entertainment has in store for characters like the Assassin Simulacrum, Loba, Silva, the Syndicate, and numerous others.
