Titanfall 2's recent update has brought the game back to life, addressing previous issues and making it a viable multiplayer option once again.
Recent updates to Apex Legends and indications of a potential release of Titanfall 3 imply that Respawn Entertainment might be redirecting its attention towards the Titanfall series once again. The inclusion of the beloved single-player campaign in Titanfall 3 would differentiate it from Apex Legends and likely appeal to a broader range of players, giving the game a unique edge.
After a prolonged period of silence, Titanfall 2 and its servers underwent recent updates, much to the delight of the gaming community. This signifies the end of a troublesome era characterized by the risks associated with engaging in Titanfall 2's multiplayer, including hackers, cheaters exploiting glitches, and overall server instability. Players are now able to enjoy their cherished mech-and-parkour shooter once again, complemented by some fresh game modes and features. This sudden surge of attention has left some curious as to whether Respawn Entertainment has finally received the green light from EA to commence development on the highly anticipated Titanfall 3, instead of solely focusing on their first-person shooter efforts with Apex Legends.
Apex Legends has garnered significant acclaim for putting Respawn on the map in ways that Titanfall could never achieve, despite the outspoken support of some of the latter's fans. Although both games share a common setting, the hero shooter battle royale game has been the sole focus of Respawn's first-person shooter endeavors since its launch in 2019. However, a recent update for Apex Legends included a cryptic message that referenced potential release dates for all titles set within the Titanfall universe. Furthermore, a leaked teaser, although potentially falsified, hinted at a date in late October. These events in close proximity suggest that Titanfall 3 may be given another opportunity to shine, with one significant advantage over Apex Legends: the inclusion of a captivating single-player campaign.
Apex Legends Has Strayed Far From Titanfall’s Formula
While there are distinct differences, such as the inclusion of Titan mechs, Apex Legends and Titanfall may appear similar to an outsider. Both games utilize their science fiction settings to justify player characters with incredibly advanced tools and exceptional mobility. Unlike other popular shooter franchises like Call of Duty, Halo, and Fortnite that incorporate various movement mechanics, Titanfall and Apex Legends prioritize the freedom of movement and parkour abilities for players in their environments. It is this unique emphasis on traversal that truly distinguishes Respawn's games.
However, these shared game mechanics are just the beginning. Titanfall maintains a more traditional competitive first-person shooter design at its core. Its multiplayer gameplay consists of different modes where teams of players complete specific objectives or engage in combat on diverse maps. On the other hand, Apex Legends is a hero shooter, providing each player with a distinct experience similar to choosing loadouts in Titanfall, while also following squad-based battle royale rules and incorporating loot mechanics. Despite the larger play space in Apex Legends, there is no place for Titans, showcasing the game's commitment to a live, ever-evolving multiplayer service that necessitates leaving behind old modes and mechanics.
Titanfall 3 Should Bring Back Its Popular Single-Player Campaign
Once, Titanfall 1 attempted to integrate its campaign and multiplayer modes, but the endeavor ultimately failed, as players preferred regular matches when playing multiplayer. Undeterred, Titanfall 2 took a different approach, adopting a more traditional Call of Duty-style campaign. This time, the campaign became as popular as the improved multiplayer. Today, Titanfall 2's innovative and captivating story mode is frequently featured on lists of the best modern FPS campaigns. It also serves as a compelling argument for further exploration of the Titanfall universe through a potential Titanfall 3.
Apex Legends, on the other hand, faces limitations in accomplishing this feat, partly due to its absence of Titans in a peacetime setting. The game's narrative, primarily communicated through trailers, has encountered similar disinterest from players, reminiscent of the reception received by Titanfall 1. Additionally, incorporating co-op story missions would mirror the recent controversial updates of Overwatch 2. To effectively appeal to a wider audience, Titanfall 3 would benefit from a robust single-player campaign that attracts players uninterested in multiplayer gameplay. Even if Titanfall 3 is not as financially successful as Apex Legends, a comprehensive multiplayer offering and a substantial single-player campaign are all it needs to reintroduce itself and make a new mark in the gaming industry.
Titanfall 3 is not confirmed to be in development.
