The main storyline of Starfield revolves around the concept of multiversal theory and introduces players to two important characters. Both of these characters, known as Starborn, have contrasting ideologies that can create a dilemma when it comes to selecting between them during the Unearthed main story mission.
At first glance, The Emissary may appear to be the obvious choice, especially considering The Hunter's actions in the High Price to Pay main story mission. However, players may want to gather more information about The Hunter before making a decision. This includes understanding his identity and the motivations behind his relentless pursuit of the Artifacts and the Unity.

Who is The Hunter in Starfield?
In the In Their Footsteps main story mission, players discover a surprising revelation: The Hunter is none other than Father Aquilus, a devout man they previously encountered while delving into the enigma of the Unity. At first glance, this revelation may appear implausible due to the stark contrast between the two individuals. However, it all intertwines seamlessly with Starfield's overarching narrative and the fundamental objective of the Unity.
What Does the Hunter Want?
Through entering the luminosity emitted by the Unity, individuals gain access to uncharted realms, undergoing a profound metamorphosis into celestial entities known as Starborn. The Hunter embodies an incarnation of Father Aquilus hailing from a distant cosmos, but having underwent multiple rebirths, he has relinquished his understanding of what it means to be human. Driven solely by the relentless pursuit of supremacy, the acquisition of Artifacts, and the preservation of the Unity itself, his purpose remains unwavering.
The Hunter prioritizes power above all else and has no qualms about using force to claim the Artifacts. This is evident when players witness his assault on the Lodge during the main story mission, High Price to Pay, or possibly even earlier if they encounter him in New Atlantis or Akila City and foolishly choose to engage in a confrontation. However, it is important to note that The Hunter derives no joy from killing, instead viewing it as the quickest route back to the Unity.
Players can initially encounter The Hunter leaning against a wall in the Spaceport area of New Atlantis. If they engage in conversation with him there, he will later be found at the bar in Akila City.
The Hunter's willingness to join forces with the player seems to stem from curiosity and boredom rather than any genuine motivation. In most other realities, the main character is the one who perishes after the attack on the Lodge. Therefore, the fact that the player has made it this far piques his interest. Despite his potential usefulness, it should be noted that The Hunter is not a morally upright individual. This is evident from his request for the player to eliminate Father Aquilus if they choose to align with him at the conclusion of the Unearthed main story mission.
