Earlier this week, exciting spoilers for the upcoming 246th chapter of Gege Akutami's original manga series, Jujutsu Kaisen, were released after a brief hiatus. Fans were eager to see what would happen next after the shocking events of the previous issue. While many anticipated a twist in the plans of Yuji Itadori and Hiromi Higuruma, the exact nature of this twist remained a mystery. Some speculated that Deadly Sentencing would only grant the characters half of what they needed, in the form of a death sentence or confiscation.
Jujutsu Kaisen fans drop the ball with their predictions for how Deadly Sentencing will affect Sukuna
Fans were shocked by the unexpected twist in the upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen issue, which was not predicted by any alleged spoilers. Upon reflection, it becomes clear that the twist should have been anticipated by every fan, based on what is known about Higuruma’s Domain Expansion.
How Sukuna escaped Deadly Sentencing, explained

The latest alleged Jujutsu Kaisen spoilers reveal that Higuruma and Yuji's plan goes smoothly until the moment of confiscation. Judgeman unexpectedly takes the Cursed Tool Sukuna received from Yorozu in her final moments instead of Sukuna's Cursed Techniques, surprising fans. While some anticipated a technicality for Sukuna's escape, others thought it would be the death penalty due to the date of their battle. Fans may have seen this twist coming, but it's also possible that they should have anticipated the eventual twist that occurred.
As previously established in Jujutsu Kaisen, Cursed Tools are prominent sources of Cursed Energy due to their unique creation. The Cursed Tool in Sukuna's possession during the Domain Expansion's activation was created with Yorozu's dying breath and her Cursed Technique, making it essentially a part of Yorozu.

With this in mind, Judgeman saw Sukuna's Cursed Tool as a more obvious and noticeable source of Cursed Energy and the use of a Cursed Technique. As a result, Judgeman's main focus was on confiscating the Cursed Tool made with Yorozu's Cursed Technique, rather than targeting Sukuna's own innate Cursed Technique(s).
Essentially, it's as if Judgeman believed that Sukuna had no Cursed Energy or Cursed Technique to take, due to the presence of a Cursed Tool made with Yorozu's Cursed Technique. A similar situation would occur with Maki being found guilty within the Domain.
Despite lacking Cursed Energy or Cursed Technique, Mai's sword is taken, mirroring Yorozu's creation of Sukuna’s Cursed Tool. Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen are embracing this unexpected twist, which actually aligns with the series' established rules. This outcome is particularly unsurprising considering what fans already knew about Higuruma’s Deadly Sentencing and its target selection process.

Editor's P/S
As a hard fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I am thrilled and surprised by the unpredictable turn of events in the latest chapter. Sukuna's daring escape from Higuruma's Domain was not something I anticipated, and it left me in awe of Gege Akutami's storytelling prowess. The way the author cleverly played with our expectations and subverted our predictions was truly masterful.
The revelation that Judgeman chose to confiscate the Cursed Tool instead of Sukuna's Cursed Techniques was a stroke of genius. It not only caught us off guard but also made perfect sense within the established rules of the Jujutsu Kaisen universe. The fact that Cursed Tools are prominent sources of Cursed Energy and that the Cursed Tool in Sukuna's possession was created with Yorozu's dying breath added an extra layer of complexity to the situation.
