Fans who watched the anime adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen may be puzzled by the apparent resurrection of Geto Suguru, who had died in the Jujutsu Kaisen:0 manga. Noticing the addition of a stitched forehead in the anime, fans have come up with various theories about what might have happened to him. However, it is later revealed that the character responsible for this transformation is actually a new character named Kenjaku. Introduced during the Shibuya Incident arc, Kenjaku shocks viewers by removing his own cranium to reveal a talking brain with teeth. The question remains: who is Kenjaku, and what role does he play in the story?
An Ancient And Powerful Sorcerer
Kenjaku, an ancient and formidable sorcerer of jujutsu, possesses a unique ability that grants him control over the bodies of others. Using this innate technique, he can transfer his brain into a new host, even if that person is deceased. The process leaves a distinctive scar across the forehead, which Kenjaku can open to reveal his own brain. By assuming the identities of others, he gains access to their cursed energy and innate techniques, blending seamlessly with the original owner of the body.
Moreover, Kenjaku absorbs the memories of each host body, allowing him to retain a wealth of knowledge. When he switches bodies, he can also choose to retain certain cursed techniques, although there is a limit to the number his brain can hold. Having lived for centuries and experienced numerous lives, Kenjaku possesses a vast range of knowledge, spanning from general information to experimental research and strategic intellect. Crafty and calculative, he acts as the mastermind behind many pivotal events in the overarching narrative of Jujutsu Kaisen, all in pursuit of his ultimate objective.
A Range Of Hosts Throughout The Years
Kenjaku has experienced various eras of Jujutsu by taking over the bodies of different sorcerers. Although only four hosts are mentioned, it is strongly suggested that many more individuals have fallen victim to his technique. Here are some examples of the bodies Kenjaku has inhabited throughout his lifetime.
Approximately 400 years prior to the main events of Jujutsu Kaisen, Kenjaku took control of an unnamed sorcerer's body. He used this vessel to establish closer connections with other sorcerers of that era and make Binding Vows with them. The details of these vows will be further explained in the anime. Notably, among the mentioned sorcerers, Hajime Kashimo stands out.
Noritoshi Kamo
The Kamo Family, one of the prominent sorcerer clans known as the Big Three, fell victim to Kenjaku's sinister plans during the Meiji Era in Japan. Noritoshi Kamo, a member of this unfortunate family, became one of Kenjaku's targets. Exploiting his time as Noritoshi, Kenjaku conducted numerous morally questionable experiments revolving around the fusion of cursed spirits and human beings. He subjected a woman to captivity, subjecting her to a series of coupling experiments with cursed spirits, resulting in nine pregnancies and subsequent abortions. These experiments produced the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings, such abominable creations that all traces of their existence were eradicated. Kenjaku's actions rendered him a blemish on the Kamo Family's heritage and earned him the infamous title of the most malevolent jujutsu sorcerer throughout history. Furthermore, by infusing his blood with some of the Cursed Wombs, he bestowed upon Choso the ability to wield the Kamo family's power over Blood Manipulation.
Kaori Itadori
Occupying Jin Itadori's wife, Kaori Itadori, after her death, Kenjaku proceeded to have a child with her under the guise of being Jin's wife. This child was given the name Yuji Itadori. The purpose behind Kenjaku's possession is largely shrouded in mystery, as he is known to be selective with his choice of hosts. However, it is speculated that the possession revolved around the birth of Yuji. The duration of Kenjaku's inhabitation of Kaori's body and any potential atrocities committed during this time remain unknown. Nonetheless, it was from Kaori that he acquired the antigravity cursed technique, which he later showcased in the manga.Geto Suguru
The more well-known incarnation of Geto Suguru is Kenjaku, as he met his demise at the hands of Yuta Okkotsu before the major events of the story. Considering his status as one of the four special-grade sorcerers in the series, it would have been expected for the higher-ups to protect his body more effectively. However, their negligence allowed Kenjaku to obtain a unique gem. With this, he acquired the ability to manipulate cursed spirits and the exceptional physical prowess of Geto, earning him the moniker of Pseudo-Geto until his true identity was revealed.
What Are His Plans?
Undoubtedly, a man does not exert so much effort to endure for a millennium without a purpose or drive. Kenjaku's aspirations are not extraordinary or monotonous, such as conquering or obliterating the world. His intention is to unite Lord Tengen and all the non-sorcerers in Japan into a singular entity, although his motives remain a mystery, and he lacks a defined objective — that is solely what he desires.
