Avalanche Software, previously recognized for Disney Infinity, Toy Story 3, and the Cars games, surprised many with their exceptional work on Hogwarts Legacy. This nostalgia-driven open-world game boasts stunning visuals, immersive combat mechanics, and an abundance of engaging side content. While Hogwarts Legacy has received well-deserved critical acclaim, it does have some flaws holding it back from perfection.
Although Hogwarts Legacy offers a vast array of content, it didn't fully deliver the comprehensive Hogwarts school experience that some fans were eagerly anticipating in the first-ever open-world Harry Potter RPG. While players do have the opportunity to attend classes and experience iconic moments like obtaining their first wand, there are still some significant moments and one particular missing feature, which would have made for an incredible addition to the game, namely the Room of Requirement.
Pets Would Have Made a Great Addition to Hogwarts Legacy's Room of Requirement
Upon arriving at the renowned School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and attending a few classes, players of Hogwarts Legacy are presented with a quest that grants them access to the illustrious Room of Requirement. This mystical space within Hogwarts Castle is said to manifest itself to those who are in dire need, and has the exceptional ability to transform its layout to suit the specific needs of its occupants. For the central character in Hogwarts Legacy, the Room of Requirement assumes the form of an impressive potions laboratory, greenhouse, and vivarium, each offering a wide array of customizable options.
Upon successfully completing the initial quest associated with the Room of Requirement, players unlock three new spells. These magical incantations permit players to conjure various objects within the room, including laboratory stations, planters, and a plethora of decorative items such as paintings, wall adornments, and rugs, among numerous others. As players embark on side quests and explore the expansive open-world of Hogwarts Legacy, they will progressively unlock additional cosmetic furnishings for their personalized Room of Requirement. By communicating with Deek, a devoted house-elf entrusted by Professor Weasley of Hogwarts Legacy to care for the room in the absence of the player, individuals can modify the overall visual aesthetic of the room as well as adjust the lighting scheme to their preference.
The Room of Requirement in Hogwarts Legacy serves as a place for players to craft potions and also has an additional purpose. It allows players to rescue and capture magical creatures from poachers near Hogwarts Castle. These creatures can then be kept in the room's magical vivariums, which can be customized with various objects. While the Room of Requirement already offers many customization options, there is room for improvement.
A great enhancement to the Room of Requirement in Hogwarts Legacy would be the addition of a personal pet for the player. As an important part of the Hogwarts student experience, first-year students are encouraged to bring their own pets to school. Unfortunately, the protagonist in Hogwarts Legacy does not get the chance to choose a pet until their fifth year. It would be wonderful to have the option for players to have a pet in the game, which they can also take on adventures outside of the school and return to the Room of Requirement.
The inclusion of customizable items like owl posts, cat beds, and miniature houses for frogs or toads could have greatly expanded the options for personalization in the game. Hogwarts Legacy already offers a cozy gaming experience, but adding these elements would have elevated it to new heights. The game is currently accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Switch version set to launch on November 14, 2023.
