In Baldur's Gate 3, playing with friends or a full party of four can significantly enhance the gaming experience. The presence of multiple players leads to dynamic gameplay, as each person's individual choices impact the overall flow of the game. Additionally, executing successful combat combos can be incredibly gratifying.
However, there are a couple of drawbacks to consider. By playing with friends, players may have to sacrifice the prebuilt companions that come with Baldur's Gate 3 unless specifically chosen as preferred characters. Furthermore, managing the party becomes challenging in a multiplayer campaign, as swapping characters does not function as expected.
Can You Remove Custom Characters In Baldur's Gate 3 Multiplayer?
Regrettably, it is currently not possible to remove a friend's custom character from the party in Hotfix #4. Once a character is created and added to the group, they will remain there permanently unless Larian or a skilled modder intervenes.
Baldur's Gate 3 does offer drop-in co-op, allowing players to join an ongoing campaign and create a custom character that will be adjusted to match the host's power level. However, even if the player controlling the character leaves, they will still remain in the party. If a different player joins in the middle of the campaign, they will need to create their own custom character. In order for the new player to join, the host must remove an NPC-controlled Origin character and send them back to camp. Failure to do so will prevent the new player from joining.
In the event that a party is comprised of custom characters and their creators log out of the game, the host will assume control over all of them as non-player characters in a solo session. However, if friends rejoin the game, they will regain control over their respective heroes.
Currently, the only option to remove custom characters is by reloading the campaign to a point prior to it being played in multiplayer mode. Unfortunately, party members who initiated their journey together are out of luck and their most viable option would be to begin a new campaign.
In single-player mode, including a party of four custom characters significantly diminishes the overall experience of Baldur's Gate 3. The richness and depth of the origin characters offer incredible potential for interactions, which players will miss out on if they do not adventure alongside them. However, even if players choose to have a full party of friends, they can still engage in romantic relationships with Astarion or any of the other NPC party members. Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available on PC, and a PS5 version will be released soon.
