Gyokko, an Upper Rank Five demon affiliated with the Twelve Kizuki, was introduced in the Swordsmith Village Arc of Koyoharu Gotouge's Demon Slayer. He is considered one of the elite forces of the Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji and is ranked directly above Daki and Gyutaro. Despite being swiftly decapitated by the Demon King during a meeting between the Upper Ranks, Gyokko managed to survive and even reveled in being close to his master, providing insight into his mentality and approach to life and combat. Notably, Gyokko's Blood Demon Art is centered on his love for pottery, allowing him to channel a wide range of unique techniques that are capable of overwhelming even Hashira-level Demon Slayers. His artistic abilities have also earned him recognition from both Muzan and Upper Rank Two Doma.
What Is Gyokko's Blood Demon Art?
Gyokko's physical appearance is a deviation from the norm, with his pale and white body bearing no arms on his muscular upper torso and multiple small appendages sprouting from his head, neck, and torso. His lower half remains hidden inside the vases he emerges from, resembling a djinn in many ways. His face is even more distorted, with two mouths occupying the space where his eye sockets should be. One eye is located beneath his nose, bearing the daiji for "Five," while the other is embedded in the center of his forehead, inscribed with the daiji for "Upper Rank." In battle, Gyokko can reveal his true form, reminiscent of a merman, with a humanoid body covered in scales and a long tail in place of legs. Using his Blood Demon Art, Gyokko creates vases out of his own flesh, allowing him to teleport and spawn as many as necessary. He can modify the size of each vase and use them to imprison or seal opponents. Gyokko's distorted view of art leads him to manipulate his opponents' bodies within the vases to create grotesque sculptures.
Gyokko's Blood Demon Art techniques predominantly center around aquatic themes and creatures. He has a vast array of fish-like underlings that he can summon to eliminate weaker adversaries, which he used to terrorize the residents of Swordsmith Village. In addition to fish, he can also manipulate other sea creatures like octopi and control large amounts of water to execute his techniques, all of which reflect his obsession with aquatic life. His true form reinforces this motif with a layered and nearly impenetrable skin that rivals the hardness of diamonds.
What Are The Various Techniques He Uses?
Gyokko's Blood Demon Art allows him to manifest anything he imagines within his porcelain vases. During the Swordsmith Village attack, he unleashed swarms of demon fish that were nearly indestructible, with only the pots on their backs vulnerable to damage. These fish demons possessed unique traits such as powerful claws, humanoid legs, and massive jaws filled with razor-sharp teeth. The majority of the Demon Slayers who attempted to defend the village perished in the battle against them. It wasn't until the Hashira, including Mitsuri and Muichiro, arrived that the battle's outcome began to shift in favor of the Demon Slayers.
In addition to his deadly vase creations and manipulation of water, Gyokko's most devastating attack is the Ten Thousand Gliding Slime-Fish. He summons 10,000 slime fish from various pots to swarm towards his opponent, secreting a poisonous liquid that can be absorbed through the skin. Victims of this attack are reduced to mere bones. In his true form, after molting, Gyokko unleashes an even more powerful barrage of physical offensives with his Killer Fish Scales, capable of damaging nearby trees and showcasing the immense magnitude of his power.
