Highlights
Rune farming is essential in Elden Ring to upgrade characters and prepare for boss battles, with certain locations offering more valuable runes in 2023.
Early and mid-game rune farms like Liurnia and Greyoll's Dragonbarrow yield a decent number of up to 1,000 runes, making them perfect for leveling up. As players advance further in the game, they can discover mid-game farms such as Redmane Castle and Lenne's Rise Site of Grace, which provide greater rewards, reaching up to 3,000 runes and 42,000 runes respectively. However, Mohgwyn's Palace still reigns supreme as the ultimate spot for rune farming.
Level progression in RPGs can be challenging as players need to meet high item requirements to upgrade their characters. This often leads to spending a significant amount of time and energy farming tools and XP in order to gain a slight advantage in tough boss battles. FromSoftware's Soulsborne series is well-known for its farming mechanics, and Elden Ring takes this to the next level by requiring intensive rune farming to prepare for its renowned boss fights. The most valuable Rune Farms in Elden Ring are highly sought after and considered the go-to spots for obtaining valuable runes in 2023.
However, finding the best farming locations can be tricky as players want to maximize their returns for the time they invest. Without sufficient information, any location may appear equally promising for acquiring enough runes to defeat Elden Ring's toughest bosses. Nonetheless, setting up camp in just any place can actually hinder gamers' efforts. The potential for efficient rune farming varies depending on how far players have progressed in The Lands Between. Locations that may seem like treasure troves early in the game often yield meager rewards compared to the best end-game locations. In this critically acclaimed title, there are specific sites that consistently produce optimal results, motivating players to take full advantage of their farming potential.
Caelid and Dragonbarrow Have Excellent Early and Mid Game Rune Farms
The early-game introduces players to the Tarnished and their motives, with the enemies being less challenging compared to later encounters. However, defeating certain bosses in Elden Ring still requires significant farming effort, and there are specific spots that are ideal for leveling up the player character. One such spot is Liurnia, which is relatively easy to exploit and rewards players with 1,000 Runes when done correctly. To reach Liurnia, players need to leave Stormveil Castle and head towards Lost Grace of Liurnia Highway North, where they will find spectral soldiers and giants engaged in a battle that triggers when the protagonist approaches.
Interestingly, the Tarnished doesn't need to engage in combat to acquire valuable runes. Instead, they can simply let the combatants eliminate each other, and this process can be easily repeated by resting at the Lost Grace. A similar strategy can be employed at the Bestial Sanctum in Greyoll's Dragonbarrow by evading the dangerous Black Blade Kindred and continuing towards the Farum Greatbridge Site of Grace in the valley of the hill. Sneaking up on the ninjas in this area also yields impressive results, granting the Tarnished anywhere from 600 to a thousand Runes, providing a profitable outcome for relatively effortless gains.
As players delve further into the enchanting world, the rewards from these areas no longer suffice for the needs of the Tarnished. However, there are several locations that can serve as suitable options for the mid-game. Redmane Castle offers similar farming potential as the Liurnia Rune Farm, where players can obtain the spot's full reward without having to continuously press buttons. Situated in Southern Caelid, gamers will come across a gathering of knights and menacing dogs engaging in a fierce battle in front of the fortress, providing the Tarnished with a thrilling display. Following the demise of the majority of the population, players can swoop in and take out the remaining stragglers, earning a maximum of 3,000 Runes.
Another mid-game Rune Farm with tremendous earning potential is located in Dragonbarrow at Lenne's Rise Site of Grace. The same principle seen in Redmane Castle applies here, although this time the target is a boss. It can be challenging to lure the unsuspecting character across a bridge adorned with poison traps, presenting players with a valuable lesson in avoiding attacks. However, the poison eventually takes its toll on the boss, granting the Tarnished a reward of 42,000 Runes. Players can repeat this process to their heart's content by visiting the Lost Grace and taking a rest.
Taking Down Bosses and a Visit to Mohgwyn's Palace Gives Players Epic Rewards
At Windmill Village in the Altus Plateau's Northern coastline, players can find a valuable resource that they eagerly collect. The locals here enjoy dancing, but their happiness is disrupted when the Tarnished, a dangerous enemy, gets too close. Players can engage in battle with these enemies and clear out the small hamlet to earn 7,000 Runes. For those seeking a greater challenge, there is also the option to face the formidable boss, the Godskin Apostle, which rewards players with 14,000 Runes and special items like the Godskin Peeler and the Scouring Black Flame Incantation.
To prepare for the intense late-game scenarios of Elden Ring and the climactic clash with Malenia, players have the opportunity to enhance their Tarnished characters in Mohgwyn's Palace and the Haligtree. The Haligtree area, known for its extreme difficulty, offers rewards for those brave enough to traverse its dangerous path. The Prayer Room Site of Grace, located within the Haligtree, is surrounded by enemy knights and footsoldiers. Defeating them can yield around 3,000 Runes per kill.
Mohgwyn's Palace stands as the most valuable Rune Farm in Elden Ring, offering numerous opportunities for players to reap its benefits. By utilizing the Pureblood Knight's Medal, players can access the underground area and make their way to the Palace Approach Ledge Road Site of Grace. Here, a group of Albinaurics lie in slumber, each rewarding the Tarnished with 2,000 Runes. Engaging in crow hunting within the confines of Mohgwyn's Palace can yield a substantial haul of up to 13,000 Runes. However, it is important to note that unlocking this location necessitates the completion of the Varre questline.
Elden Ring is currently available on various platforms, including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
