A player discovered a glitch in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that allows them to catch Houndour early, adding to the list of glitches found in the games.
Houndour can typically be encountered in the southern area of the Paldea region by talking to Arven. However, a glitch enables players to capture Houndour without needing to speak to Arven. Some players have discovered different approaches to catch Houndour before encountering Arven, but the glitch discovered by _Uhh2009_ appears to be the most dependable. It is unlikely that the developers will address these glitches in the near future.
A Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player recently stumbled upon a peculiar glitch that allowed them to catch Houndour ahead of schedule. This discovery adds to the growing list of glitches that fans of the game have been uncovering since its release last November.
Houndour is among the 300 pocket monsters from previous Pokemon generations that are available in Scarlet and Violet from the beginning. This creature, a combination of Dark and Fire types, can be found in various locations in the southern part of the Paldea region. However, to access the area where Houndour usually appears, players typically need to speak with Arven, a character in the game.
Instead of relying on Arven, it is possible to capture a Houndour by exploiting a glitch near the Poco Path, the introductory route in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This discovery was made by Reddit user _Uhh2009_, who provided a video demonstration of the technique. By approaching one of the deepest corners of a hill, nearby Houndours can spawn. Once indicated by a standard Pokemon info panel, players can throw a Poke Ball and watch it fly through the terrain to capture the unsuspecting Houndour.
Some players have claimed an easier method of encountering a Houndour before speaking with Arven, by finding it on the opposite side of the glitchy hill near a visible tree in the shared video. However, the cause of these misaligned spawns is unclear, making the method demonstrated by _Uhh2009_ a more reliable way of capturing a Houndour and obtaining a Houndoom in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet at the earliest opportunity.
Numerous players of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have already discovered methods to exploit glitches in buildings and terrain, which have subsequently influenced popular speedrunning strategies. It remains to be seen if this newly surfaced glitch will have the same impact, but fans will have ample time to experiment with it. Given that Game Freak's recent updates for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have primarily addressed performance issues, it is unlikely that the developer will prioritize fixing harmless glitches in the games, at least for the foreseeable future.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet can be played on the Nintendo Switch.
