Marvel Snap's recent collaboration with Marvel's Midnight Suns introduced tarot card-themed variants, but missed an opportunity to include more Midnight Suns-themed content.
Marvel Snap had the potential to showcase distinctive player avatars for every tarot card variant and introduce exclusive variants for the playable heroes in Midnight Suns. Additionally, the crossover could have incorporated fresh cards for the Bloodstone season, inspired by characters from Midnight Suns, along with various Marvel Snap-related game items.
Marvel Snap's recent collaboration with Marvel's Midnight Suns introduced new tarot card-themed variants to the shop, inspired by in-game collectibles. This crossover marked the first time Marvel Snap teamed up with another Marvel game, and the partnership seemed like a perfect match. Although the tarot card variants were well-received, there was a missed opportunity to fully explore the crossover potential by featuring more Midnight Suns-themed content in Marvel Snap. Considering the recent release of various Marvel games, such as Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and upcoming games like EA Motive's Iron Man, Marvel Snap has a wealth of potential crossover content waiting to be utilized. As a card-based strategy RPG, Marvel's Midnight Suns was an ideal partner for Marvel Snap, and its captivating in-game tarot cards were a natural choice for variants. Beyond these tarot card variants, Marvel's Midnight Suns offers a treasure trove of possibilities for new content in Marvel Snap, particularly during the game's Bloodstone season.
Marvel Snap's Midnight Suns Collaboration Could Have Been So Much More
Although many Marvel Snap players were excited about the tarot card variants, there were missed opportunities to showcase Midnight Suns in the game. One way to enhance the tarot card artworks would have been to create player avatars for each variant. While Magik's tarot card variant did have a corresponding avatar, it would have been great to see more variants receive the same treatment. This would have allowed players to proudly display their favorite tarot card variant on their profiles.
While the tarot card collectibles were beloved by fans, Midnight Suns could have inspired even more diverse variants in Marvel Snap. Each playable hero from Midnight Suns could have had their own unique variant in the game, featuring their artwork and showcasing them in their Midnight Suns suits. This means that characters like Nico Minoru, Blade, Magik, Ghost Rider, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Hulk, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Scarlet Witch, Deadpool, Morbius, Venom, and Storm would have had their own playable character variants in Midnight Suns.
Marvel Snap missed an opportunity to enhance its content by introducing new cards for the Bloodstone season based on characters from Midnight Suns. The inclusion of characters like The Hunter, Caretaker, and Lilith would have further enticed players to explore Midnight Suns and learn more about these unique additions. Although Nico Minoru makes her debut in Marvel Snap this season, the addition of a Midnight Suns character like The Hunter would have been an even more exciting way to celebrate this collaboration.
Furthermore, this crossover should have been mutually beneficial, featuring some Marvel Snap-themed items in Midnight Suns. Although content updates for Midnight Suns have ceased with the release of the Storm DLC, it would have been satisfying to have a minor update including small additions from Marvel Snap for players to enjoy. Simple gestures like gifting heroes with a deck of Marvel Snap cards during hangouts or featuring Marvel Snap Infinity borders on cards in players' Midnight Suns decks would have been a pleasant acknowledgement of the collaboration between the two games.
Marvel Snap is available for PC and mobile devices.
