Highlights

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's upcoming DLC, The Teal Mask, will introduce a new mini-game called Ogre Oustin' where players pop colored balloons, hinting at Ogerpon's typing.

The balloons in the Ogre Oustin' mini-game are available in four different colors: grey, green, red, and blue. Each color is associated with a specific type. It is believed that Ogerpon, the main character in the game, has a base type of Normal.

The typing of Ogerpon in The Teal Mask DLC is still uncertain. However, there is speculation that it might have multiple types or Tera forms, which could potentially include secondary types such as Grass, Fire, or Water.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are currently receiving multiple updates, including new Tera Raid battles against powerful creatures from previous generations. While this may temporarily limit players to a specific gameplay loop, The Teal Mask DLC will be released in just a month. Although it is unclear what precisely this DLC will entail in terms of endgame challenges, the recent Pokemon Presents provided some insight into the expansion. It revealed new characters, locations, critters, and activities, including a mini-game where players pop colored balloons. This mini-game seems to offer a hint about Ogerpon's typing in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's first DLC.

Pokemon types play a significant role in a creature's identity and can greatly impact their power and usability. However, The Pokemon Company has been secretive about the types of the new critters in Generation 9's DLC. The exception to this is the new evolution of Applin in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which has a Grass/Dragon typing, like the other Applin evolutions from Generation 8. Despite this information, players are eagerly anticipating the reveal of Ogerpon's type or type combination, as it is likely to play a major role in The Teal Mask's storyline.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Ogerpon Could Have Multiple Types and FormsAccording to the newly surfaced details for The Teal Mask DLC, players will be able to partake in a mini-game that's not too dissimilar from Pokemon Legends: Arceus' Drifloon balloon-popping race, but this time with Ogerpon balloons. The mini-game is called Ogre Oustin', and the trailer shows a total of four different colors for the balloons, but only the green ones show the Legendary Pokemon's mask as players currently know it. On the back of the green balloons players can spot the symbol for Grass-type Pokemon, which is in line with expectations for Ogerpon.

In addition to the colorful balloons, there are gray, red, and blue ones. The red balloons stand out as they display the symbol for Fire-type Pokemon on their backs. This suggests that the blue balloons are likely associated with Water-type Pokemon. On the other hand, the gray balloons are more commonly associated with Normal-type Pokemon, although it is also possible that they could be related to Steel-type Pokemon. However, this seems less likely considering Ogerpon's appearance and the fact that Kitakami is the setting for The Teal Mask DLC. At the moment, the most reasonable explanation is that Ogerpon's typing is simply Normal. However, it's worth noting that this could change in the future.

If that is the case, Ogerpon might acquire Grass, Fire, or Water as its secondary types, or it could simply be a single-type Pokemon aligned with its corresponding type. It is possible that Ogerpon's appearance in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet involves it using a Grass-type mask, represented by green balloons. However, considering the presence of red and blue balloons symbolizing Fire and Water respectively, it is also feasible that Ogerpon possesses two additional masks that have not yet been revealed, transforming it into either a Fire-type or Water-type Pokemon.

Given that The Indigo Disk trailer shows Terapagos' pre-evolution evolving into the actual Terapagos, Tera forms appear to be confirmed. This suggests that Ogerpon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet could also have Tera forms. If there are no more colored balloons in the Ogre Oustin' mini-game, it is likely that Ogerpon will either have four different masks, one of which is Normal-type, or it will feature three iconic elemental masks along with a base mask representative of its regular type. While this outcome remains unconfirmed at present, it seems to be the most likely scenario for the first DLC of Generation 9.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
