In an interview with Game Rant, Warcraft Rumble Game Producer Elhora Davis and Art Director Jeremy Collins discuss the game's different PvE systems. They delve into how features like Heroic Mode and dungeons will bring excitement to gameplay and encourage players to experiment with new strategies using their Warcraft mini collections.
Warcraft Rumble's Heroic Mode Mixes Up Campaign Missions
Once players have progressed through a certain portion of Warcraft Rumble's campaign, they will unlock the Heroic Mode feature. This feature allows players to replay campaign missions with additional challenges and mechanics. It bears resemblance to the Heroic difficulty raids in World of Warcraft, where extra obstacles are added for players who have mastered the Normal Mode version of the encounter. Some of these Heroic modifications are notoriously challenging, leading the Rumble team to internally dub the feature as "Mean Mode".
As an example, there is a map called Dockmaster. In this map, there is a dockmaster goblin accompanied by an ogre partner who hurls barrels down two different lanes. The ogre throws barrels down one lane, then proceeds to the other lane to continue throwing barrels there. Initially, players would strategize their advances in order to avoid being hit by the barrels when they are not being deployed.
In Heroic mode, the protagonist has a companion who constantly throws barrels down both lanes. So how can we overcome this challenge? That was the question we pondered, particularly with regard to heroics. Now that players are familiar with a level, what can we introduce that truly alters the game and brings a fresh experience?
This addition will greatly enhance replayability, as players will need to approach Heroic Mode encounters in a completely different manner due to unique mechanical twists. While a specific team composition or strategy may have sufficed in the Normal Mode campaign, the Heroic version may require a completely different approach, adding to the satisfaction of conquering a seemingly impossible mission.
Warcraft Rumble's Dungeons Are Surprisingly Deep
Warcraft Rumble will introduce an intriguing relic system in its dungeons, ensuring a captivating experience with each playthrough. Every week, players will have access to a specific "family" of miniature factions, such as Undead, Horde, or Alliance, which they can utilize in the dungeon. They will then select a potent relic that enhances their team in various ways. As they progress through each stage of the dungeon, players will have the opportunity to choose additional relics, ultimately leading to a final showdown with enticing rewards. Each dungeon can be attempted twice before resetting, ensuring that players don't lose all their progress in case of failure.
Dungeons differ from the campaign as they consist of a three-map gauntlet. At the start of a dungeon run, players will encounter a family-themed environment, with different families rotating on a weekly basis. These five families include Beast, Undead, Blackrock, Horde, and Alliance. The specific family permitted for entry into the dungeon will be determined by the current week.
Upon entering the dungeon, you choose a leader and then select a dungeon relic that grants a distinct power to enhance your army. A favorite example is the "Really Big Candle," which boosts your kobold units by 25 levels, transforming them into formidable rat-like creatures. They become incredibly potent and provide a humorous twist to the game. In the future, Rumble introduces grand raid encounters, such as battling iconic Warcraft bosses like Onyxia. These raids are considered the most challenging PvE experiences according to the developers.
Warcraft Rumble releases on mobile on November 3.
