Minecraft, with 140 million monthly active players in 2023 according to Search Logistics, is widely regarded as one of the most beloved sandbox games of all time. The game's open nature allows users to progress at their own pace, whether that be battling dangerous Minecraft mob bosses or peacefully tending to their hydraulic farms. Additionally, players have the freedom to build fully-functional in-game computers, showcasing the endless possibilities of Minecraft.
The game's creative freedom is unparalleled, and with a vast number of mods available and constant updates from the developers, Minecraft continues to evolve and diversify. However, despite its many strengths, the game could benefit from improvements in its decorative options.
Minecraft Should Let its Players Paint Blocks
In order to appeal to a wider audience, Minecraft should consider incorporating a feature that allows players to customize the colors of the world. Taking inspiration from the modding community, the game could introduce a "Tinted" option similar to the popular Minecraft mod created by user itayfeder. This feature would enable players to paint items in thirteen different colors by simply right-clicking on a block with a Paintbrush while holding their preferred dye in the other hand.
Players currently have the option to craft blocks of a specific color, but this process is not as efficient as using the mod. To enhance customization in Minecraft, the game could consider introducing a paintbrush or paint can tool. This tool would allow players to paint individual sides of blocks, resulting in a significant improvement to the existing features.
For instance, if a player wanted to have a different color for the exterior and interior of their house, they could easily apply their preferred colors to each side. The usual method of achieving different colors on a build is by creating two layers of blocks placed side by side. However, this approach can make the design appear bulky and consume unnecessary space.
The Minecraft community has discovered alternative methods to customize blocks without resorting to texture packs or mods. One such technique involves searching for Terracotta, a plentiful multicolored stone found in badlands biomes. Additionally, Terracotta can be obtained by smelting clay and offers a variety of sixteen base colors. For even more options and patterns, players can utilize Glazed Terracotta.
While players can create visually appealing designs using Terracotta blocks, they are unable to directly paint all sides of the blocks. Although this feature is not present in the Minecraft 1.20 Trails & Tales update, players can still utilize mods to achieve their desired aesthetic. However, it is likely that the option to paint blocks directly will be added in the future.
Minecraft is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
