In The Butcher encounter, a Diablo 4 player comes to the realization that this boss lacks the anticipated level of difficulty. The latest installment of the immensely popular Diablo franchise continues to feature formidable adversaries for players to conquer. Diablo 4 follows suit by introducing a plethora of unique enemies and bosses, including the newly introduced world boss, Ashava.
Among the most formidable secret bosses in Diablo 4 is The Butcher, a recurring enemy that has made appearances in almost every game in the franchise, except for Diablo 2. While Diablo 3 elevated The Butcher to the status of a full-fledged Act boss, its role has been somewhat diminished in Diablo 4. However, this does not make The Butcher any less deadly. Instead of being found in a location that can be farmed repeatedly, The Butcher is now a rare wandering spawn in dungeons. Unfortunately, one player encountered a bug that stripped away the terrifying aspect of this iconic boss.
On the Diablo 4 subReddit, a user named JasperSnail shared a video showcasing a boss fight against the Butcher in the Ancient's Lament dungeon. Interestingly, instead of the Butcher aggressively attacking the player, it displayed a more passive behavior. As its health dropped by 10%, the Butcher focused on self-preservation, repeatedly attempting to escape rather than engage in combat. This unexpected strategy significantly prolonged the fight for JasperSnail, who could only pursue the Butcher with their Werebear Druid. The encounter drew amusement from commenters, who likened the Butcher's behavior to that of a Diablo 4 Treasure Goblin—an NPC notorious for eluding players instead of fighting them. Some speculated that the Butcher may have been an NPC exploring the dungeon when the player unexpectedly launched an attack. Another player also observed similar behavior, but noticed a change in the AI's response once the Butcher reached a certain threshold of health.
The Butcher's unexpected lack of resistance suggests that the player may have stumbled upon a fortunate encounter. Although locating The Butcher can be challenging during gameplay, it has proven to be a formidable adversary, accounting for approximately 2% of all deaths in Diablo 4. This equates to an astounding six million player kills. The unpredictability of The Butcher's appearance adds to the difficulty, catching players off guard when they are already weakened and unprepared. Diablo 4 is accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
