Warning: SPOILERS for Ranni's and Rogier's quests in Elden Ring ahead. Proceed at your own risk.
In Elden Ring, players are granted significant flexibility when it comes to constructing their characters. While certain builds in the game outperform others, credit must be given to FromSoftware for allowing players the freedom to customize their stats and equipment to a great extent. One of the reasons for this is the game's approach to classes, which are presented as starting points for players to further develop according to their preferences. Additionally, various classes in Elden Ring encourage players to experiment with and blend different combat styles.
Elden Ring’s Spellblade Set
Experience the ultimate fusion of martial prowess and mystic arts with an array of warrior-mage hybrids. Among them, Elden Ring's Prisoner class provides an ideal equilibrium between the art of swordsmanship and the arcane. Seekers of the battlemage fantasy will also find themselves enticed by the Astrologer, Prophet, and Confessor, each offering unique avenues to explore. Yet, no power fantasy can reach its zenith without the perfect attire, and among the rare armor sets, one stands unrivaled as the epitome of an aspiring battlemage's gear. The Spellblade Set in Elden Ring is a distinctive Armor Set featuring the Pointed Hat, Traveling Attire, Gloves, and Trousers of the Spellblade. These fashionable garments guarantee that players embody the essence of a wandering battlemage, and many regard them as the ultimate mage armor in the game. Nevertheless, optimizing their potential can prove challenging without the knowledge of how to properly utilize them.
In terms of statistics, Elden Ring's Set provides substantial Damage Negation against magical attacks. It boasts 25.11 points of resistance to Magic damage, 25.1 Holy damage resistance, 22.6 resistance to Fire, and 23.5 points of resistance against Lightning. While it may not outshine other sets in any particular category, it surpasses the average performance in all four aspects. This is particularly advantageous as players can obtain the Spellblade Set relatively early in the game.
Regrettably, the Set's physical resistances are not particularly impressive and are slightly inferior to the Prophet's starting gear. However, the Spellblade Set compensates for this by being one of the lightest armor sets available. Weighing only 8.6, it offers exceptional magical protection considering its minimal burden.
The standout feature of Elden Ring's Spellblade Set is its ability to grant a 2% damage increase to Magic Skills/Ashes of War with each piece, resulting in a combined 8% boost. However, the item descriptions can be confusing as they refer to this bonus as "glintstone sorcery skills," leading to misunderstandings about its effects. In reality, the Set enhances all weapon Skills that deal magical damage, not just normal Glintstone Sorceries. This includes Elden Ring's Ashes of War like the Ice Spear, as well as the Skill versions of Glintblade Phalanx and Carian Grandeur. It also applies to unique Skills such as Moonveil's Transient Moonlight and the ranged attack from the Sword of Night and Flame's Night and Flame Stance. These abilities are already powerful on their own, but the additional 8% bonus elevates the Spellblade Set to a must-have for players seeking to embody the role of a mighty magical warrior in Elden Ring.
How to Get Elden Ring's Spellblade Set
Players in Elden Ring have the opportunity to acquire the Spellblade Set early on in the game. This full set of armor belongs to an NPC named Sorcerer Rogier. To encounter Rogier, players must go to the Stormveil Castle Chapel before defeating Godrick. It is not advisable to kill Rogier for his armor, as he becomes a valuable spell merchant in Roundtable Hold.
Instead, players should locate Rogier in Roundtable Hold after defeating Godrick. Additionally, it is recommended that players complete Rogier's quest before speaking to Ranni the Witch in Three Sisters in order to receive the maximum rewards. Alternatively, if players visit Rogier during Ranni's questline, he will reveal that he will soon enter a deep sleep. This occurs after players rest at a Site of Grace. After resting enough times, Rogier will pass away, allowing players to retrieve the Spellblade Set and other items from his body.
Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
