The 23rd World Tournament is the fifth downloadable content episode for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and the second episode released as part of the game's second season pass. Similar to Bardock - Alone Against Fate, The 23rd World Tournament maintains high-quality animation and storytelling despite its shorter length.
Comprising of eight chapters and an epilogue, players can anticipate spending approximately two hours to complete the episode. However, individuals who aim to finish all Sub Stories in The 23rd World Tournament should allocate an additional hour or more, particularly if they encounter difficulties in the game's combat.
Prologue Walkthrough (How to Beat Demon King Piccolo)
After launching the 23rd World Tournament DLC and enduring the introductory cutscenes, gamers will be immersed in an intense one-on-one encounter with the formidable Demon King Piccolo. This serves as a valuable recap of the combat mechanics in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, complemented by informative on-screen cues that help refresh players' understanding.
Players should stick to the proven and effective block, vanish, melee attack combo in order to easily deplete the Demon King's health bars. Although he may begin to glow red after a while, the overall strategy for defeating him remains unchanged. Occasionally, he will ascend into the air and unleash a barrage of energy blasts, but these can be easily avoided by observing the red glow on the ground where they are about to strike.
Once players fully deplete Demon King Piccolo's health, they will be treated to a series of cutscenes. Following these cutscenes, the prologue will reach its conclusion. Additionally, players will receive a few Vitadrinks as a reward. However, it is highly unlikely that they will actually require these drinks as none of the enemies pose much of a challenge. Furthermore, Goku's level increases after each battle, ensuring that he enters the next battle with full health. Consequently, the ability to heal is not of great importance in this episode.
Episode 1: Reuniting with Friends Walkthrough
The 23rd World Tournament DLC kicks off in Episode 1, as Goku, now adult, reunites with his long-lost buddies by the entrance to the tournament grounds. Following some captivating scenes, players will be assigned the mission of making their way to the nearby reception desk. Once there, they simply have to select the "Sign up to Fight" option to advance to the next chapter.
Episode 1: Off to the World Tournament Walkthrough
After watching several more cutscenes, players will be given an opportunity to explore the immediate vicinity before the tournament commences. They have the option to grab a bite to eat or replenish their supply of healing items, although neither is essential. Additionally, they can choose to use the flying Nimbus to combat criminals in the area, although the experience points gained from doing so are relatively insignificant. The only worthwhile activity is completing the "Satisfy the Fighters' Bellies" Sub Story. After accomplishing this, players are advised to speak with Krillin and Yamcha near the tournament venue to progress further.
Satisfy the Fighters' Bellies Sub Story Guide
Episode 1: Tien Shinhan: Crane School Chronicles Walkthrough (How to Beat Mercenary Tao)
Before the preliminaries, players have the opportunity to embark on a captivating side story known as the Crance School Chronicles. Initially resembling Prince Vegeta's Story from the Bardock - Alone Against Fate DLC, this gripping tale takes an unexpected turn as players engage in a thrilling encounter between Tien, the three-eyed warrior, and the formidable Mercenary Tao.
The encounter with Tao presents a higher level of difficulty compared to the previous battle against Demon King Piccolo. However, employing the same strategy can still yield positive results. Specifically, players should prioritize attempting to teleport behind their adversary, as this will greatly facilitate the gradual depletion of his health bar. It is worth noting that Tao possesses a few aggressively impactful maneuvers, but players can effectively neutralize them by employing timely blocks and teleportation in response.
Episode 1: Kick Off the Main Event Walkthrough (How to Beat Mercenary Tao)
Upon finishing the Crane School Chronicles, participants will be transported back to the tournament grounds. It is crucial for them to engage in a conversation with the World Tournament Announcer in order to reignite the excitement. The upcoming confrontation is a duplication of the previous one, compelling players to once again assume the role of Tien as he strives to conquer Mercenary Tao.
It is important to keep the action near the center of the arena to minimize the risk of losing tournament matches through ring-outs. Going near the edge of the ring does not provide any advantage as it is not possible to defeat an enemy through a ring-out.
Episode 2: The Semi-Finals are About to Begin! Walkthrough (How to Beat Tien)
The upcoming battle showcases Goku facing off against Tien in a thrilling rematch of the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament's final round. This exhilarating encounter is divided into two distinct phases. Initially, the strategy employed resembles that of the previous fights, allowing players to swiftly overpower Tien. However, to further intensify the battle, Tien unveils his awe-inspiring multi-form technique, dividing himself into four formidable opponents.
Episode 2: Kami's Ready for Action Walkthrough
While individually weak, these four versions of Tien become a formidable force when united, capable of inflicting significant damage upon Goku. Therefore, the most effective strategy to defeat Tien at the 23rd World Tournament is to systematically eliminate each of the four Tiens, one at a time, with expedience. With each successive defeat, the task becomes progressively easier, culminating in a final confrontation that is effortlessly overcome. Subsequently, a cutscene ensues, marking the conclusion of the chapter.
Those familiar with the manga and anime will already be aware that the character known as Hero is in fact Kami, a truth that is revealed to Goku just prior to their confrontation with Junior. However, players are not required to engage in any combat during this particular chapter, as they can instead sit back and immerse themselves in the captivating cutscenes and dialogues that inevitably culminate in a resounding triumph for Picollo Junior.
Episode 2: The Finals Walkthrough (How to Beat Junior)
Players should approach Tournament Staff E when they feel prepared to engage in the final showdown against Junior. This battle is divided into three phases, with the initial phase being quite manageable. However, the difficulty escalates significantly as Junior grows in size. Players should remain vigilant for his charging and stomping attacks, and strategically position themselves to attack his legs from the sides or rear to minimize the risk of being trampled. It is crucial for players to rapidly fill the stun bar, allowing them to unleash a torrent of damage when Junior is temporarily incapacitated and vulnerable. Let the battle commence!
After a few additional cutscenes, players will once again encounter Junior, but this time in his regular-sized form. However, this phase presents a significantly greater challenge compared to the previous two. Junior possesses multiple powerful attacks that have the potential to stun Goku for a considerable number of seconds upon impact. Hence, players must remain alert and prepared to swiftly evade these attacks. Despite the difficulty, Junior does have a few notable vulnerabilities.
He showcases his impressive abilities by soaring into the sky and conjuring multiple formidable energy orbs, strategically placing them as formidable obstacles on the field. Evading these orbs poses little difficulty, and the time taken to charge them presents an opportunity for players to fully replenish their Ki bar and unleash three or four powerful Kamehamehas. This barrage can swiftly diminish Junior's health bar, ensuring that the fight concludes promptly rather than dragging on unnecessarily.
Eventually, Junior will cease to take damage, and players will simply have to wait for him to commence charging up a formidable Explosive Wave attack. Once this occurs, they will be prompted to initiate an offensive approach and diminish the yellow bar situated above his head through melee assaults. Subsequently, they will have an opportunity to follow up their offensive strategy by pressing the Circle button on PlayStation or the B button on Xbox, which will effectively conclude the battle.
Epilogue Walkthrough (What to Do After Completing The 23rd World Tournament)
After completing the captivating cutscenes and enduring or opting out of the closing credits, players will be rewarded with an additional cutscene showcasing Goku and Chichi discovering a new abode. Furthermore, they will be faced with a showdown against a gang of hooligans before being exposed to the post-game content of the DLC. This exciting extension encompasses an additional five Sub Stories, Patrol Missions which involve taking down criminals on behalf of the police force, and the opportunity to partake in further arduous training exercises. Additionally, players will also unlock the ability to revisit previous main story missions by utilizing the nearby illuminated pillar.
