Unleashing the Ultimate Evolution: A Powerhouse Design for Mightyena

A talented Pokemon enthusiast crafts a fierce and captivating evolution concept for Mightyena, a beloved third generation Pokemon featured in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Prepare to be amazed by this fan's remarkable design

A Pokemon enthusiast has created a unique evolution for Mightyena, a third-generation Pokemon that was last seen in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Unfortunately, Mightyena, along with many other third-generation Pokemon, is not included in the latest entries of the beloved Pokemon franchise, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Mightyena is the evolved version of Poochyena, a Dark-type Pokemon that was originally introduced in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire for the Game Boy Advance. In previous games, players could evolve Poochyena into Mightyena simply by reaching level 18. This evolution process remained the same in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, where Poochyena and Mightyena were given a 3D makeover. However, to the disappointment of fans, both Poochyena and Mightyena, along with 605 other Pokemon, did not make the cut in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which were released in November.

Pokemon fan EliDwebster has created a new evolution for Mightyena called Grimyena. Grimyena is a Dark-type Pokemon that possesses Ground-type abilities. To evolve Mightyena into Grimyena, three Ghost-type Pokemon must be defeated using the move "Clay Crunch" and the Pokemon must reach level 31 during nighttime. Clay Crunch is an innovative move developed by EliDwebster, which allows Grimyena to bite its opponent and drain their HP. Once evolved, Grimyena gains the "Scavenger" ability, enabling it to pilfer valuable items from enemy Pokemon during battles.

The design of Grimyena draws inspiration from the extinct giant short-faced hyena while retaining key characteristics from Mightyena. Both Pokemon share striking red eyes and fur that is a combination of gray and black. Additionally, EliDwebster aimed to make Grimyena a more fierce and cunning creature compared to Mightyena. The creator explains that the original concept for Grimyena is influenced by hyena bestiaries from the Middle Ages. These historical records portray hyenas as sly beings that unearth and consume corpses from graveyards under the cover of darkness.

EliDwebster's Mightyena evolution concept takes inspiration from the terrifying depictions of hyenas in the Middle Ages. However, the design of the Pokemon remains true to the original Poochyena and Mightyena designs created by The Pokemon Company. Additionally, the abilities of Grimyena, such as Clay Crunch and Scavenger, are well-balanced and draw from existing abilities in Pokemon games. These abilities, like Horn Leech and Bitter Blade, not only inflict damage on enemy Pokemon but also drain their HP, as seen in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Although the release of the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is scheduled for later this year, the possibility of Poochyena and Mightyena making a comeback in the ninth generation seems unlikely at the moment. However, trainers can still capture these Pokemon in Pokemon GO and the upcoming Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
