Power Rangers Cosmic Fury introduces a terrifying new Evil Ranger, who rivals the fear-inducing presence of the iconic Mighty Morphin Green Ranger. This special season commemorates the franchise's 30th anniversary by revisiting beloved allies and adversaries. Guiding the new generation of Rangers is Billy Cranston, the esteemed mentor and former Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Blue Ranger, as they confront the formidable Emperor of Evil, Lord Zedd.

Cosmic Fury effectively completes the Power Rangers journey by incorporating an all-new Evil Ranger. Despite the vast array of episodes spanning three seasons in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the "Green With Evil" story arc from season 1 remains a standout moment. While there have been various Evil Rangers throughout the Power Rangers timeline, the latest addition may very well be one of the most formidable.

Lord Zedd’s New Evil Power Ranger In Cosmic Fury Explained

Unleashing the Terrifying Power of Lord Zedd's Sinister New Ranger in Power Rangers

At the onset of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, Ollie, known as the Dino Fury Blue Ranger, was enlisted as one of Lord Zedd's generals. In the preceding Dino Fury season 2, Ollie had been subjected to brainwashing by Lord Zedd, transforming the Blue Ranger into one of the malevolent Rangers among the Power Rangers. Although Ollie managed to break free from the clutches of the villains' spells in Dino Fury, he succumbed once again to their influence in the first episode of Cosmic Fury. Utilizing the same magic that had previously ensnared him, the Blue Ranger's loyalty shifted towards Zedd. Consequently, Ollie forfeited his Dino Fury powers, yet a new form awaited him in the near future.

Why Cosmic Fury’s Evil Ranger Ollie Was Scarier Than The Green Ranger

While the Power Rangers received new morphers and powers courtesy of Billy, Ollie was bestowed a fresh morphing device courtesy of Lord Zedd. Though the Blue Ranger maintained his color, his suit took on a much more malevolent appearance. Ollie was not the initial malevolent Power Ranger concocted by Lord Zedd, as the Emperor of Evil had a direct hand in the inception of the Green Ranger in Mighty Morphin. Although Rita manipulated Tommy Oliver and bestowed upon him a corrupted power coin, it was Lord Zedd who masterminded the entire affair. However, unlike Tommy's five-episode story arc, Ollie bore the mantle of an evil Ranger right until the conclusion of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury.

Undoubtedly, when it comes to leaving a mark on pop culture, the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger surpasses all other Evil Rangers or Extra Rangers in terms of impact. The success of Tommy's Green Ranger storyline paved the way for Power Rangers to embrace the Evil Ranger trope, going so far as to create original characters to fulfill this role. However, looking at it from a storytelling perspective, one could argue that Cosmic Fury's malevolent Blue Ranger was even more formidable than the original Green Ranger, especially from the perspective of the Power Rangers. Unlike the Mighty Morphin team, who had only just met Tommy when he turned to the dark side, Ollie had already been a Power Ranger for a staggering two years.

The Power Rangers had been friends with Ollie since Dino Fury season 1, so having to repeatedly fight him during Cosmic Fury was particularly challenging. Furthermore, the Green Ranger only posed as an obstacle during a specific arc, and even then, he quickly redeemed himself after being introduced. On the other hand, Ollie in Cosmic Fury only rejoined the team towards the end of the season. In the Power Rangers franchise, the Evil Rangers are often regarded as some of the most intriguing characters, and luckily, Power Rangers Cosmic Fury introduced Lord Zedd as a formidable champion, deserving of the iconic evil Green Ranger title.
