Unleashing the Power: Wonder Woman Transcends Boundaries in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Discover how Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor's innovative dual open worlds can serve as a compelling narrative blueprint for Wonder Woman's ability to bridge two distinct realms Unveil the seamless integration of these worlds in Monolith's masterpiece

Monolith's Middle-earth franchise may never see a renewal or continuation, especially since its notable studio developers have moved on to new projects like EA's recently announced Black Panther game. It's unfortunate because the franchise had a unique story within such an iconic IP, and Monolith's Nemesis System was highly acclaimed in the gaming community. While the Wonder Woman game by Monolith could potentially incorporate the Nemesis System, it should also draw inspiration from Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War in other aspects.

There are parallels between the Middle-earth games and how a Wonder Woman game could be designed, but little information has been shared about it apart from the title logo and an image of Diana herself. For example, Wonder Woman wielding a sword could mirror Talion's abilities, and her powers could be influenced by Celebrimbor's mechanics. Additionally, when it comes to Wonder Woman uniting two worlds, Monolith could take a one-to-one approach to level design, ensuring that Themyscira and the known world feel distinct from each other.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Had Two Separate Open Worlds

Shadow of Mordor approached its open world with more restrictions compared to its sequel, Shadow of War. This was justified by the fact that Shadow of War introduces the concept of conquering individual regions. Shadow of Mordor focuses on the intimate narrative of Talion and Celebrimbor, with the standout character being the titular Mordor region. While Shadow of Mordor does not have a completely separate realm, Wonder Woman is able to easily transition between realms.

Initially, the map in Shadow of Mordor is quite large, although players are limited in their abilities to quickly traverse Udun's desolate plains. However, compared to other open-world games, the map is relatively small. Later on in the game, players are surprised to discover that they can access another region, Nurn, which has its own open-world map. Traveling between the two regions is possible through fast travel on the map. It is clear that a similar approach would be beneficial for Wonder Woman to move between Themyscira and the known world.

It is currently uncertain whether both regions will be accessible or if players will have seamless travel between them. However, reports suggest that the game is open-world and will require a large land mass to achieve that status. The concept of uniting two worlds seems reminiscent of the premise in the 2017 Wonder Woman movie, which took place during WW1. It would be intriguing to see how the game's storytelling could be unique if it aims to explore similar ground, but having two regions is essential regardless.

If the concept of uniting two worlds doesn't involve bringing together Themyscira and Earth, it would be a surprising twist. For Themyscira and the known world to be united, it would likely occur during a time of conflict between these worlds. The specifics of when and where the game is set will determine this. However, if fast travel to a secluded part of the world is possible, it may not require a seamless transition. A simple fast travel option could serve the purpose if Diana wishes to visit places like Metropolis or Gotham City.
