How Much Does the Glimmering Charm Increase Tera Shards?
Is the Glimmering Charm Worth It?
Terastallization is a new game mechanic introduced in Generation 9's Scarlet & Violet that alters a Pokemon's appearance and has the potential to change its typing. Terastallized Pokemon do not receive any stat boosts, but if they use a move that corresponds to their Tera-typing, the power of the attack will be enhanced. Each Pokemon is assigned a Tera-type, which can be modified at a restaurant located in Medali.
Players will require 50 Tera Shards to modify their Pokemon's Tera-typing. The most effective method to obtain these shards is by participating in Tera Raids. Unfortunately, the drop rate for Tera Shards is low; however, Scarlet/Violet players can increase this rate by obtaining the Glimmering Charm in the Teal Mask DLC. To acquire the Glimmering Charm, players must capture all 200 Pokemon in the Kitakami (Teal Mask) Pokedex.
Where is Jacq in Kitakami?
After obtaining The Teal Mask, players will be contacted by Jacq, who will invite them on a fieldtrip to Kitakami. They should proceed to Naranja/Uva Academy and meet Ms. Briar. Trainers will then be given the Kitakami Dex by Jacq, allowing them to venture into the new region.
To fully experience The Teal Mask story, players should progress until they acquire the Festival Jinbei (Green) and the Teal Style Card. Before attending the Festival of Masks, players should follow the east road from Mossui Town and reach Reveler's Road. At the first set of trees on the right, just past the bridge, Jacq will be waiting. The precise location can be identified using the objective marker/flag in the above image.
Speaking to Jacq in Kitakami for the first time will result in him giving players an Egg. This Egg has the potential to hatch into one of the Sinnoh Starters, which include Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup.
To obtain the Glimmering Charm, players must successfully complete the new Pokedex. The Kitakami Dex features a total of 200 Pokemon, some of which can also be found in Paldea. Therefore, it is possible that players may already have some of the pages filled out, even if they are visiting Kitakami for the first time.
Best Way to Complete the Kitakami Pokedex
The Paldea Dex contains 400 Pokemon, which is twice the number of the 200 Pokemon found in Kitakami. However, if trainers have already completed the Paldea Dex before coming to Kitakami, this shouldn't pose much of a challenge. In Paldea, there are various Pokemon species available for capture, including Rockruff-line, Riolu-line, and Starly-line. This means that trainers might even need to catch less than 200 Pokemon if they have already filled out the pages of their first Dex. To efficiently complete the Dex, trainers should catch every Pokemon they encounter and thoroughly explore all areas of Kitakami. It is recommended to make use of Quick Balls and other Poke Balls that have catch rates influenced by the environment or the level/typing of the Pokemon. Additionally, participating in Tera Raids offers a good opportunity to catch rarer Pokemon like Feebas.
Concerning the uncommon Pokemon in the Kitakami Dex:
Regrettably, Teal Mask incorporates version-exclusive Pokemon. Aipom, Ambipom, and Morpeko can only be found in Pokemon Violet, while Gligar, Gliscor, and Cramorant are exclusive to Pokemon Scarlet. Trainers will need to trade for these exclusives or capture them in a different Pokemon game and transfer them to Scarlet/Violet using Pokemon HOME.
Additional Pokemon can only be accessed through side quests or the main quest. In a sidequest involving Perrin, a photographer believed to be related to Adaman of the Diamond Clan, players can unlock the Bloodmoon Ursaluna. Perrin can be found near the west road leading out of Mossui Town. It should be noted that this side quest does not adjust its difficulty level to match the player's progress in the Scarlet/Violet main story. As a result, players aiming to complete their Pokedex before finishing the game will need to have Pokemon that are at least level 65.
The newly introduced Legendary Pokemon - Okidogi, Fezandipiti, Munkidori, and Ogerpon - can be captured at the conclusion of the Teal Mask event. Ogerpon is automatically obtained upon completion. Although Ogerpon's level adjusts to 20 or 70 depending on whether players have finished the Scarlet/Violet main stories (such as Starfall Street, Path of Legends, and Victory Road), the "Loyal Three" remain locked at level 70.
How Much Does the Glimmering Charm Increase Tera Shards?
Tera Shards earned from Tera Raids will be displayed as a bonus on the rewards page, with the amount increasing for higher level Raids. The Glimmering Charm is applicable only to 3/4/5/6-star Tera Raids, resulting in an additional +2 Tera Shards.
4-star Tera Raid + Glimmering Charm = +5 additional Tera Shards
5-star Tera Raid + Glimmering Charm = +10 additional Tera Shards
By combining a Glimmering Charm with a 6-star Tera Raid, players can obtain an extra +12 Tera Shards. However, it is important to mention that these high-level Tera Raids, specifically the 5/6-star ones, are only accessible after completing the postgame and post-Ace Academy Tournament. Prior to that, players will only encounter 4-star Tera Raids.
Is the Glimmering Charm Worth It?
Players may be questioning whether the Glimmering Charm is worth the investment, and the answer to this inquiry is subjective.
For those individuals who wish to alter their Pokemon's Tera-typing, it is advisable to take into account the acquisition of the Glimmering Charm. This is due to the relatively low drop rate of Tera Shards without the charm. It is important to note that altering a Pokemon's Tera-typing at the Treasure Eatery in Medali requires 50 Tera Shards per Type. The inclusion of the Glimmering Charm can notably expedite the farming process.
Another important factor to consider is a Pokemon's STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus). A Terastallized Pokemon will inflict greater damage when using a move that matches its Tera-typing compared to using a move that does not. Pokemon that hatch from an Egg but have the ability to change their base Types upon evolving may also benefit from changing their Tera-typing.
Take Eevee for example. When hatched from an Egg, it always has a Normal Tera-type. However, when it evolves, its Tera-type does not change to match one of its potential evolutions. Therefore, it is possible to have an Espeon (Psychic-type) with a Normal Tera-typing. While this does eliminate Espeon's vulnerability to Ghost-type moves, it does not learn any Normal-type moves that can inflict as much damage as its Psychic-type moves. Considering that Espeon is a special attacker, it will not be able to defeat Pokemon using a Terastallized Quick Attack as effectively as it would with a Terastallized Psychic move.
The Fixed Spawns in Paldea and Kitakami feature Terastallized Pokemon that have unique Tera-typings. Among them is a Terastallized Eelektross with a Fighting Tera-typing. However, it may be beneficial to change its Tera-typing to Electric. By doing so, Eelektross will receive Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) and additional damage when using Electric-type moves. Moreover, its ability, Levitate, will nullify its weakness to Ground-type moves. Consequently, Terastallized Eelektross will become essentially immune to super-effective attacks.
All these factors should be taken into consideration when deciding to change a Pokemon's Tera Type and whether players should acquire the Glimmering Charm. Opting for a Tera Typing that differs from a Pokemon's regular typing can catch opponents off guard. For instance, Rock-types that can Terastallize into Ghost-types will render them impervious to Fighting-type moves, which are traditionally a weakness for Rock-types. Ultimately, it boils down to how trainers wish to structure their teams.
