How to start the Bloodmoon Ursaluna side quest
To acquire the Bloodmoon Ursaluna in The Teal Mask DLC of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players must complete a special side quest. This quest is initiated by speaking to Perrin, a woman with green and black hair, who can be found taking photos in Mossui Town, just west of the Pokemon Center. However, before embarking on this quest, players must first catch 150 Kitakami Pokemon as a prerequisite. This will require significant effort, as it represents a substantial portion of the Pokemon population in the area.
How to complete the Bloodmoon Ursaluna side quest
To get a head start in the Kitakami Pokedex, you'll be pleased to know that it overlaps with the regular Paldea Pokedex. This means that you don't have to complete the main quest before embarking on this side quest. However, please note that you can only capture the four Legendary Pokemon introduced in the DLC after finishing the side quest.
Perrin will require you to capture photos of 10 different Pokemon on a foggy night before you can progress further. Once you have successfully caught 150 Pokemon in the Kitakami region, Perrin will challenge you to a battle to test your skills. The good news is that she only has two Pokemon, and they are not overly challenging. Upon emerging victorious, Perrin will share her quest to find the elusive Bloodmoon Beast and express her desire to capture its photo. This is your chance to catch this legendary creature. However, you will need to rendezvous with Perrin in the Timeless Woods, a forest area located in the northeastern corner of the map.
The next steps involve capturing images of 10 different Pokemon during misty evenings. You need not wait for weather changes as conversing with Perrin automatically triggers the misty effect. To successfully snap a photo of each Pokemon, you must crouch and move cautiously to approach them. Moving too closely or rapidly will startle the Pokemon and cause them to flee.
Bloodmoon Ursaluna is a dual-type Pokemon, with ground and normal attributes. Hence, employing a water type Pokemon will be highly effective. Once you have completed photographing the Pokemon, Perrin will inquire whether you are prepared to confront the formidable Bloodmoon Ursaluna. When you respond affirmatively, a brief sequence will lead you into the battle. This battle is similar to a Titan encounter, with the Bloodmoon Ursaluna possessing an extensive health bar. Unlike during the battle, it is unnecessary to attempt to catch the Pokemon. Rather, at the conclusion of the fight, after emerging victorious, you will have the option to capture them. During the battle, Ursaluna showcases its ground-normal characteristics, but possesses a special ability to damage ghost type Pokemon with its moves. Keep this in mind while strategizing. Furthermore, Ursaluna will repeatedly use calm mind to enhance its special attack and defense. The sooner you triumph in the battle, the better.
Once you beat and catch the Bloodmoon Ursaluna, Perrin tells you to meet back in Mossui Town. Head back and she will give you your other quest rewards, including a Hisuian Growlithe.
