In Diablo 4, there are seven types of Gems that vary in quality. The higher the quality of a Gem, the more powerful its effects become. To fully optimize their characters' abilities, players should prioritize upgrading their Gems. This guide provides an in-depth overview of the Gem upgrading process, including the levels at which players can perform upgrades.

The five different Gem qualities are Crude, Chipped, Standard, Flawless, and Royal. Players can upgrade their Gems with the help of a Jeweler, an NPC found in various towns, such as Kyovashad. By combining three Gems, players can obtain a higher quality Gem, provided they have enough gold and meet the required level.

To upgrade Gems in the game, players need to reach certain levels. Here are the levels required for each Gem upgrade: Crude to Chipped at Level 20, Chipped to Standard at Level 40, Standard to Flawless at Level 60, and Flawless to Royal at Level 70.

Players must reach Levels 50 and 60 to be able to use Flawless and Royal Gems respectively. This means that Diablo 4 players can equip these Gems before they can create them at the Jeweler, as long as they acquire them from other sources.

Evidence has been found by dataminers indicating the existence of three higher-quality Gems in Diablo 4, although details regarding their effects and availability remain unknown. It is possible that these Gems may become craftable at Levels 80, 90, and 100. Given this, players are advised to continue collecting Gems, even if they are currently using Flawless Gems. However, storing these Gems may prove difficult as there is no Gem bag in Diablo 4, which can pose a problem for players in the endgame.
