Ethan Page and The Gunns v. The Hardy Party
All Elite Wrestling's annual pay-per-view, Double or Nothing, is set to take place on Sunday, May 28, 2023. The event will be held in Paradise, Nevada, and promises to deliver a card filled with championship matches, heated rivalries, and high stakes. As some feuds come to a close, others are just beginning to heat up.This year's Double or Nothing marks the fifth installment of the highly anticipated event. A number of AEW's recent signings will be in action, battling it out for championship gold. However, the main event will feature four AEW originals competing for the World Championship. With the announcement of a new AEW show, the event may serve as a turning point, dividing competitors towards one show or the other.
The feud between Ethan Page and Matt Hardy has been brewing for months, with Isiah Kassidy caught in the middle. Page and his group, The Firm, had Kassidy and Matt under contract, subjecting them to months of abuse. However, the tables turned when Jeff Hardy and HOOK joined forces with Matt and Kassidy, leading to a victory over Page, Lee Moriarty, Big Bill, and Stokely Hathaway. Seeking revenge, Page has enlisted Colten and Austin Gunn to help him settle the score. Matt, still holding a grudge, has proposed a high-stakes match at Double or Nothing, where if he, Jeff, and HOOK emerge victorious, Page's contract will be in his hands. Despite the outcome, it's clear that neither Page nor Matt will be content.
AEW TNT Championship
The upcoming ladder match for the TNT Championship between Wardlow and Christian Cage promises to be a thrilling encounter. After recapturing the championship from Powerhouse Hobbs, Wardlow has been targeted by Cage, who has been trying to get under his skin. However, this has only made Wardlow more determined to retain his title. Although Cage has a history of success in ladder matches, it was Wardlow who emerged victorious in the 2022 Face of the Revolution ladder match, earning him his initial reign as champion. The combination of animosity and experience between these two competitors is sure to make for an unforgettable showdown.
AEW TBS Championship
Jade Cargill has been on a historic reign as the TBS Champion, holding the title for over 500 days and maintaining an undefeated record of 60-0. However, her next challenger, Taya Valkyrie, has been a thorn in her side since joining AEW. In their previous championship match, their shared finisher was disabled, preventing Valkyrie from securing the win. But now, with no restrictions at Double or Nothing, Valkyrie aims to finally dethrone the dominant champion and end her remarkable streak.
Adam Cole v. Chris Jericho
After a prolonged absence, Adam Cole made his triumphant return to AEW and was immediately in the sights of Chris Jericho and his loyal supporters, the Jericho Appreciation Society. Cole and Dr. Britt Baker DMD were subjected to savage attacks by JAS and The Outcasts, making the rivalry a deeply personal one for Cole. In a bid to gain an upper hand, Cole has enlisted the help of Roderick Strong and Sabu, who will be by his side in this unsanctioned match. Both competitors are eagerly waiting to unleash their pent-up aggression and this match is expected to be a brutal spectacle.
21-man Blackjack Battle Royal - AEW Intercontinental Championship
Orange Cassidy's International Championship is on the line at Double or Nothing in a 21-man Blackjack Battle Royale, adding another layer of complexity to his already impressive reign. Having successfully defended his title against over 20 competitors, including Aussie Open's Kyle Fletcher, Cassidy is no stranger to the pressure of retaining his championship. However, the battle royale presents a unique challenge that could potentially drain Cassidy, putting his reign at risk. On the other hand, the chaos and animosity between his rivals may work in Cassidy's favor, providing the perfect opportunity for him to maintain his championship reign.
AEW Tag Team Championship
After reclaiming the AEW World Tag Team Championship, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler have been embroiled in a bitter rivalry with Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett. The tension between them goes beyond the title, as all three wrestlers share a respectful bond with Mark Briscoe, who has been appointed as the special guest referee for their upcoming match at Double or Nothing. Briscoe has been caught in the middle of their attempts to win him over and ensure a fair match, leading to several failed attempts at manipulation. This has soured Briscoe's relationship with both teams, and his ability to set aside his frustration and make unbiased decisions at the event will be crucial in determining who emerges victorious and earns his respect as well as the coveted AEW World Tag Team Championship.
AEW Women's World Championship
Jamie Hayter's current reign as AEW Women's World Champion began with a victory over Toni Storm, despite Hayter battling an injury at the time. At Double or Nothing, Hayter will defend her title against Storm once again, with The Outcasts supporting Storm and former AEW Women's World Champions Britt Baker and Hikaru Shida in Hayter's corner. The presence of these outside factors could have an impact on the outcome of the match, as Storm looks to become the first two-time AEW Women's World Champion in history.
Blackpool Combat Club v. The Elite - Anarchy in the Arena
The feud between Blackpool Combat Club and Elite has turned personal with recent violent attacks. Matt Jackson was injured, Hangman Adam Page and Kenny Omega were attacked with screwdrivers, and even long-time ally Don Callis attacked Omega, leading to him losing a cage match against Jon Moxley. With both Moxley and Bryan Danielson of the BCC familiar with the brutality of last year's Anarchy in the Arena match, it's the perfect way to settle their differences amidst the bad blood between the two teams.
AEW World Championship
The AEW World Championship will be up for grabs at Double or Nothing as the four pillars of AEW go head-to-head. While the reigning champion, MJF, may have victories over Darby Allin, Jack Perry, and Sammy Guevara, he's not exactly entering the pay-per-view with momentum on his side. On the other hand, Allin, Perry, and Guevara have all presented compelling arguments for why they're worthy of the gold. MJF has become known for his underhanded tactics to secure wins, and he even attempted to bribe Guevara with an undisclosed amount of money to take the pin at Double or Nothing. With each of these wrestlers having something to prove, this four-way match is bound to go down in AEW history as one of the most memorable matches yet.
Paradise, Nevada will play host to AEW Double or Nothing 2023 on May 28, 2023, with the action kicking off at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
