Mods have been present in PC gaming since its early days, but it is only in the past decade that they have become easily accessible to the average player. Nowadays, most mods can be installed with just a few clicks and minimal knowledge, as many developers support and encourage modders to enhance and improve their games.
Since late 2020, Baldur's Gate 3 has been in early access, and already there are numerous mods available for the game. Some mods offer minor updates to improve gameplay or make small changes to the game's visuals or performance. However, the most exceptional Baldur's Gate 3 mods have the ability to completely transform the player's experience.
7 Achievement Enabler
Similar to many other games, Baldur's Gate 3 includes a feature that disables achievements when mods are utilized. Understandably, numerous players have attempted to circumvent this system, with modder DK offering a straightforward yet efficient solution - although one that falls into a morally ambiguous territory.
Achievements are intended to serve as a form of recognition for accomplishing noteworthy feats within the game. Consequently, some individuals might perceive the utilization of the Achievement Enabler mod as cheating. However, since unlocking an achievement does not provide any form of advantage to the player, those who choose to use it are arguably only deceiving themselves.
6 Carry Weight Increased
Encumbrance definitely adds realism, but considering this is a fantasy game with elves, orcs, and dwarves, it's safe to assume that not all players are interested in realism. For those who aren't, encumbrance can be very frustrating, especially for those who enjoy looting everything in sight.
Of course, there are ways to manage encumbrance, like swapping characters with another party member once they hit their limit. However, why go through all that when there are mods available? Mharius' Carry Weight Increased mod is a dream come true for hoarders, allowing players to customize their carry weight limit to their liking.
5 Fast XP
As individuals age, it's common to discover that their available leisure time decreases. Even individuals who do have time may prioritize other activities over spending it grinding for XP in Baldur's Gate 3. This creates a demand for a mod like the one created by the well-known modder Malcroix.
The Fast XP mod does exactly as its name implies: it enables players to effectively double the amount of XP they earn while playing. They have the option to either use the mod to quickly reach level 6 or reduce the XP requirements for each level, enabling them to reach the level cap twice as fast as usual.
4 Customizer's Compendium
Baldur's Gate 3 offers an extensive range of choices for players to customize their characters' appearance. However, some players may desire even more options. AlanaSP, in response to this need, has developed an exceptional mod called Customizer's Compendium that enhances the customization experience.
With Customizer's Compendium, players gain access to a multitude of new options in the character creator, previously only available for non-playable characters (NPCs). The mod is straightforward to install, as all these additional customization features are already integrated into the game's full release. Consequently, the new options seamlessly complement the existing ones.
3 Tav's Hair Salon
For those who desire more customization options, the Tav's Hair Salon mod by Toarie is an excellent choice. It introduces a wide range of new hairstyles, primarily designed for Human, Elf, Half-Elf, Drow, and Tiefling races, with a few additional options available.
Similar to other impressive character mods in Baldur's Gate 3, players will need to install a few other mods like ImprovedUI ReleaseReady and the Patch 3 Mod Fixer to seamlessly use Tav's Hair Salon. However, for those with some modding experience, this should not pose a significant challenge.
2 Level 20 (Multiclass)
Baldur's Gate 3, like many other role-playing games, has a level cap of 12 to prevent characters from becoming too powerful. However, a mod created by Malcroix called Level 20 (Multiclass) now allows players to reach level 20. There is a condition, though - characters must multiclass and no single class can exceed level 12. It's important to mention that this mod does not introduce any new high-level spells or abilities, but it does provide the opportunity for powerful builds.
1 Party Limit Begone
Baldur's Gate 3 offers the best gaming experience when played with others, whether they are fictional characters or real-world players. By default, the game allows a maximum party size of four, including both players and companions. However, with the Sildur's Party Limit Begone mod, this limit is significantly expanded. Instead of removing the party limit entirely, the mod increases it to allow for up to 16 party members and up to eight players in multiplayer. As a result, this mod is highly regarded as the top choice among Baldur's Gate 3 mods and is essential for anyone who enjoys playing the game with others.
