Please bear in mind that only one active follower can accompany you on your journey, necessitating the dismissal of the previous character. Nevertheless, there exists a slightly "gamey" approach to acquiring an additional active follower. Furthermore, considering the likelihood of recruiting numerous individuals, it is prudent to familiarize yourself with methods to augment your ship's crew size.

At the present moment, there are four comprehensive Starfield companions that we are aware of. These individuals possess an affinity system that ultimately allows for the unlocking of romance options and quests.

How romance works in Starfield

Now, let's delve into the mechanics of the Starfield companion romance. If you're a veteran of Bethesda games like Fallout 4, you'll find yourself in familiar territory. But if you're new to the game or just need a refresher, here's a brief overview:

Companions possess an affinity system wherein performing activities they appreciate will yield a boost. Conversely, engaging in actions they find unfavorable will slightly diminish the affinity value.

To enhance the amount of affinity gained, it is advisable to acquire the Leadership skill.

Companions are known for their good nature and genuine intentions. It is important to note that they will not appreciate it if you harm innocent individuals. Continuously engaging in actions that displease them will eventually lead to their disdain. However, you have the opportunity to persuade them through the Persuasion minigame, convincing them that any wrongdoings were unintentional.

At specific affinity levels (such as reaching 100/200 affinity), companions will request to have a conversation with you. During these discussions, they will reveal details about their past, and you will have the opportunity to ask them various questions. It is worth mentioning that in some instances, a "flirt" dialogue option may present itself. Whenever you encounter this option, choose to flirt to enhance your bond with the companion and unlock more unique conversations.

After some time, a companion will approach you and propose a quest, which will require them to become your mandatory follower. Once you complete the task and if your bond is strong enough, the opportunity for a romantic relationship should arise.

Furthermore, you will encounter the option to commit to each other, expressing your love towards your companion.

After that, you'll get a companion's unique commitment quest, where the two of you will get married.

Going to bed and sleeping, assuming your lover is with you, will give you a temporary XP buff.

You can end a romantic relationship with a companion and return to being friends. If you later decide to revive the romance, you can initiate a conversation with them.

At present, we are unable to verify whether it is possible to be involved in multiple committed relationships. We are refraining from disclosing any spoilers related to our campaign. It should be noted, however, that companions may express a preference for exclusivity.

This game, Starfield, does not feature any romantic scenes.

Upon your return to Vectera, you have the opportunity to persuade Lin to become a part of your group. However, it is essential to highlight that we experienced a bug later on in the game, resulting in the disappearance of Lin and another crew member. Despite both being assigned to an outpost, they disappeared without a trace upon transitioning to a different home ship.

Additionally, these NPCs require recruitment fees that must be paid before they join your team, but you can reduce the amount by successfully completing the Persuasion minigame.
