There is an abundance of quests in Diablo 4, with even more unlocking after players complete the main story. Most quests can be found through the blue exclamation points on the map, although some may require intuition and a touch of luck.
One such hidden side quest in Diablo 4 is known as The Way of the Three, which remains unknown to many players. This quest is not listed in the game's quest log and does not have any specific NPC associated with it. The conditions to initiate this quest are cleverly concealed, making it nearly impossible to stumble upon in the vast world of Diablo 4. Here is a guide on how to commence this secret side quest.
How to Start the Way of the Three Quest in Diablo 4
Instead of relying on typical quest mechanics such as speaking to an NPC or stumbling upon a random item, Way of the Three sets itself apart by requiring players to discover and interact with three distinct statues. These statues, representing the formidable entities of Baal, Mephisto, and Diablo, are discreetly tucked away throughout the lands of Kehjistan, making them easy to miss. Once located, players must activate the Cheers emote to initiate the Way of the Three quest.
You can locate Baal's statue within the Altar of Ruin, a Stronghold positioned to the north of the Iron Wolves Encampment. Stand before the statue and express joy, while observing if the globe held in its hand becomes illuminated. If this occurs, it signifies that the statue has been activated.
The statue of Diablo can be found within the Altar of Terror, situated in the northeastern region of Gea Kul. Although an event typically takes place in this area, players are not required to participate. To locate the statue, head towards the alcove positioned beyond the two raised jump points. Once activated, Diablo's hands will ignite, indicating its awakening.
Located amidst the southwestern Field of Hatred lies the concealed statue of Mephisto. Unrecognizable due to its dilapidated state and being buried beneath debris and sand, it often goes unnoticed. To unveil this hidden treasure, players can effortlessly teleport to the Denshar. On reaching there, a quick scan of the ruins just outside the town's entrance will reveal the elusive statue. Expect an exhilarating moment as the statue's eyes spring to life, ablaze with a mesmerizing blue flame.
After activating all three statues, a blue quest marker will appear just east of the Imperial Library Waypoint in Caldeum. Make your way to the marker and you will discover an Unknown Altar near the Gates to Hell. Interacting with this altar will unlock a portal that leads to a hidden cultist base where a sinister ritual has gone horribly awry. Defeat the enemies within to obtain the Hellfire Hauberk, a unique rare chest piece that provides Ultimate Damage, Close Damage Reduction, and % Total Armor.
Diablo 4 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
