Diablo 4 has a distinct opponent - Lilith and her demonic army, who are poised to devastate Sanctuary as the game's marketing boldly highlights. Although the main story uncovers her ultimate objectives, battling against demons and monsters may not always suffice.
This is where player versus player (PvP) combat takes center stage, providing a thrilling addition to the Diablo 4 experience. For players looking for this unique challenge, the PvP guide and the Fields of Hatred will prove invaluable.
Fields of Hatred and PvP in Diablo 4
Becoming Bloodmarked
In Diablo 4, players have the option to engage in PvP combat within designated areas called Fields of Hatred. These areas, located in Kehjistan and the Dry Steppes, are marked on the minimap with a red hue. It is important to exercise caution when entering these regions, especially if traveling alone. In addition to battling monsters, players may also choose to engage in combat with other players.
After selecting the Mark for Blood option from the options wheel (accessed by pressing up on the D-pad on consoles), players can turn hostile towards others. Those who have been Bloodmarked are then able to inflict damage on any player within their line of sight.
If a Bloodmarked player successfully eliminates another hero, they become Hatred's Chosen. This, in turn, exposes their location to all players in the vicinity and prevents the killer from accessing any Altar of Extraction. Surviving the hunt will result in valuable rewards, which may include superior gear.
To remove the Bloodmarked or Hatred's Chosen status, a player can make a beeline for the town within the Fields of Hatred or leave the region entirely.
Seeds of Hatred and Red Dust
In addition to the rampant violence that takes place within the Fields of Hatred, there are other activities for players to engage in. Exploring the area can yield valuable resources such as Seeds of Hatred, which can be obtained through defeating monsters, participating in events, and opening chests. These seeds are visible to all players and can potentially lead to intense PvP battles. However, it is important to note that dying or leaving the PvP area will result in the loss of all Seeds of Hatred.
However, the Seeds of Hatred are not valuable on their own and need to be transformed into Red Dust, which is a permanent resource. To accomplish this, players must perform Purification Rituals at designated sites located in the Fields of Hatred. However, this process is likely to attract the attention of other players. If players manage to survive, they can then use the Red Dust at various vendors in the nearby town.
Diablo 4 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
