Warning: Spoilers ahead for episode 2 of The Walking Dead: Dead City! Gaius Charles, who stars in The Walking Dead: Dead City, gives insight into his new character, Perlie Armstrong, and how he poses a threat to Negan. As a Marshal for New Babylon, Perlie's objective is to enforce law and order in the post-apocalyptic world. Currently, his main mission is to track down Negan in Manhattan after Negan allegedly murdered a magistrate and four others. In an interview with AMC Talk, Charles shares that Perlie's unwavering commitment to justice fuels his pursuit of Negan, leaving no stone unturned in his quest for retribution. Here's what Charles had to say:
Will Perlie Armstrong Bring Negan To Justice?
The Walking Dead has always been an iconic television show in my eyes. With its incredible cast, crew, and captivating storytelling, I was genuinely thrilled to join the production. What sets Armstrong apart, and I believe fans will agree, is his unique perspective compared to other storylines. Hailing from New Babylon, he represents a society actively working towards restoring law and order—a distinctive quality. Having watched the show myself and engaged in conversations with fans, I understand the profound impact of Glenn's tragic murder by Negan in Season 7. What makes my character truly fascinating is that he is driven by a central mission: to bring Negan to justice. This is how I fit into the narrative, and the story evolves from there.
Whilst Perlie pursues Negan for his recent killings, his crimes extend far beyond his most recent deeds. During his first appearance in Season 7 of The Walking Dead, Negan infamously utilized a baseball bat encased in barbed wire to ruthlessly eliminate Abraham and Glenn— the latter being Maggie's beloved husband. Prior to his incarceration and subsequent attempt at redemption, Negan embarked on a ferocious campaign against Alexandria and several other communities situated in Virginia.
Although Negan appears to have reformed since his reign as leader of the Saviors, The Walking Dead: Dead City episode 2 showcased a brutal act reminiscent of his violent past, as he mercilessly attacked a member of The Croat's Burazi. Given this lingering aggressive nature, it is highly likely that Negan indeed killed the five individuals that Perlie seeks justice for. If Perlie manages to locate Negan and Maggie in Manhattan, eliminating Negan would fulfill his mission.
Nevertheless, there are indications that Negan has undergone some form of transformation, as he continues to assist Maggie in rescuing Hershel from The Croat. In the trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City episode 3, Perlie is seen being subjected to torture by The Croat using Walkers, potentially leading to a shared enemy situation between Perlie and Negan. Although Perlie remains determined to hold Negan accountable, The Croat's role as the main adversary in The Walking Dead: Dead City might result in an unexpected alliance between the two, albeit reluctantly.
