Delve into the dark depths of Diablo 4's Season of the Malignant Breakdown Encounter formidable foes, master new gameplay mechanics, acquire powerful items, and conquer the battle pass to ascend to greatness Prepare for an epic journey unlike any other in the Diablo universe

Diablo 4's Season of the Malignant introduces exciting seasonal content where players have the opportunity to start anew on a dedicated server. They will immerse themselves in a range of fresh experiences and create powerful builds using exclusive items only available during the season. For players familiar with Diablo 3 or Diablo Immortal's seasons, the gameplay will feel familiar and comfortable. The season commences on July 20 and will last approximately three months.

In terms of the narrative, Season of the Malignant unfolds after the events of the Diablo 4 campaign. However, it is important to note that the season is a standalone story rather than a direct continuation of the Lilith and Inarius saga. This approach ensures that the storyline of each season is self-contained, avoiding any crucial plot points that future players may have missed if they were not present during a particular season. The world of Sanctuary is plagued by a malignant outbreak, and players are challenged with defeating specialized Malignant enemies and ultimately conquering the formidable super boss, Varshan the Consumed.

Getting Started With Diablo 4 Season 1

Unleashing Chaos: Diablo 4 Season of Collapsing Malevolence

To begin Season of the Malignant, players must have already completed the Diablo 4 campaign. This completion allows them to create a new character in the seasonal realm. It's important to note that Malignant enemies will still appear in non-seasonal realms after completing the campaign. However, to fully participate in the seasonal realm, players must join it.

New seasonal characters can start experiencing the seasonal content as soon as they enter Kyovashad. They have the option to skip the campaign if they choose to do so.

The good news is that Renown carries over to seasonal characters. This means that players do not have to go searching for all the Altars of Lilith again. Additionally, players will immediately have access to their mounts and their progress in map discovery.

How to Make Progress In Season of the Malignant Battle Pass

Unleashing Chaos: Diablo 4 Season of Collapsing Malevolence

The Season 1 Battle Pass for Diablo 4 consists of 90 tiers, with the first 27 being free for all players. The remaining 63 tiers can be purchased for $10. If players own the Ultimate Edition, they will immediately receive the first 20 tiers and have access to the Premium Battle Pass right away. Diablo 4's seasonal progression offers improvements compared to Diablo 3 in terms of player progression.

Just like in Diablo 3, players will have a set of gameplay objectives, such as completing dungeons or collecting Malignant Hearts. However, players are not required to complete the entire list to move on to the next chapter. They can choose which objectives they prefer to tackle. Upon completing a chapter, players will earn various rewards, such as Legendary Aspects or currency. Each completed objective also rewards Favor, which functions as seasonal XP and helps players progress through their Battle Pass. Favor can be earned through normal gameplay, such as completing quests or defeating monsters.

Malignant Heart Gems

Players will come across Partly Corrupted enemies scattered throughout the game world. Defeating these enemies will yield Malignant Hearts as loot, which can be captured using the Cage of Binding item obtained through the season's quest. By using the Cage of Binding on a Malignant Heart, the Partly Corrupted enemy will transform into a stronger Fully Corrupted enemy. Once the Fully Corrupted enemy is defeated, they will drop a special Malignant Heart that can be inserted into Infested jewelry sockets. Malignant Hearts are categorized into four types, such as Devious or Brutal, and players can determine the type of Malignant Heart an enemy will drop based on the Affixes of the Corrupted enemy. This eliminates the need for guesswork for players who are specifically farming for a certain type of Malignant Heart.

These gems possess extraordinary power, and Blizzard has confirmed that players can create potentially game-changing builds by utilizing them in unique ways. For instance, there is a Malignant Heart that stores all damage inflicted on an enemy for 2.5 seconds, before causing an explosion that damages nearby foes with the accumulated damage. As the season progresses, the creatures and the Malignant Hearts they drop will become more formidable, encouraging players to continually engage with the content. Alongside the new Malignant Heart gems, the season will also introduce six new Unique Items and seven Legendary Aspects.

Malignant Tunnel Dungeons

The Season of the Malignant brings forth the Malignant Tunnels, a new set of dungeons in Diablo 4. These dungeons are designed to be shorter than usual, falling somewhere in between a standard dungeon and a cellar in terms of length. They serve as excellent locations for acquiring Malignant Hearts and are not affected by the Nightmare system. Unlike existing dungeons, they are not simply reskins, providing players with fresh experiences. Within these tunnels, players will face Varshan the Consumed, the primary boss of the season. While details on Varshan are limited before the season's release, it is known that his power will escalate as the season progresses.

Diablo 4 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
