In fact, I would confidently compare these compact in-ear speakers to wireless buds that cost twice or even three times as much. The JBuds are equipped with 6mm drivers and come with three different ear tip sizes. Take the time to find the tips that fit you best, as an improper seal would prevent you from experiencing the exceptional audio that these little buds can produce. Personally, I found that the medium-sized tips, which come already attached to the JBuds, provided the best fit for my ears.

The JBuds Mini, like many other wired and wireless earbuds, utilize single and sequential taps as well as long presses on the back of each bud for various functions such as adjusting volume, controlling playback, enabling/disabling ambient listening (known as Be Aware), and skipping tracks. I have found these touch commands to be effective, although precise tapping on the center of each bud is necessary. Commands may not work if the edge of the body is accidentally touched.

While the actual earbuds have an IP55 rating, the provided USB-C charging case is not rated for dust or weather resistance. According to JLab, the JBuds Mini can offer up to 5.5 hours of playback per bud with a single charge, and the charging case can provide an additional 20 hours of listening time.

I was able to listen to music on my iPhone using Apple Music. Simultaneously, I launched YouTube on my MacBook Pro and played a video. Initially, there was a slight delay in switching the audio, but then my JBuds Mini started playing the audio from the YouTube video, automatically pausing my Apple Music track. When I pressed play in Apple Music, the track resumed instantly, and the YouTube video on my MacBook paused.

Sound Quality: Getting More than What You Paid For

To be honest, I didn't have high expectations for the sound quality of the JBuds Mini considering their price. I've tried earbuds that cost $70 and $80 and they sounded tinny and weak, which led me to anticipate underwhelming performance from the JBuds. However, I'm pleased to report that I was wrong. The JBuds Mini actually sound really good. They may not be on par with something like the AirPods Pro 2, but JLab's budget buds exceed expectations and deliver impressive audio quality.

When testing the JBuds with different music genres, I was amazed by the clarity in the treble and mid-range, and the bass was simply outstanding! Despite their small size, the drivers delivered powerful and punchy bass even without Bass Boost activated. The overall soundstage is not extremely spacious, but I did not experience any feelings of excessive compression during my listening sessions.

There are several listening presets available, but personally, I preferred using the "JLab Signature" with "Music Mode" enabled. The "Balanced" preset removed a bit too much bass from the mix, and the "Bass Boost" setting tended to overemphasize the low end, resulting in muddled tones.

Compatible with both iPhone and Android devices, launching the app prompts you to pair your JBuds Mini, a process as simple as removing them from the charging case. Upon recognition by the app, the buds are added to the "My JLab" page. To access the customization options, simply tap on the JBuds Mini icon.

At the top of the page, you will find a breakdown of the battery life for both earbuds. Below, you will find a number of different adjustments available. These include a toggle switch for the "Be Aware" mode, an "Equalizer" for modifying sound presets and creating personalized audio mixes, "Touch Controls," a toggle option for switching between "Music Mode" and "Movie Mode" for listening, a volume limiter for "Safe Hearing," and an option to update the firmware to ensure optimal performance of your JBuds.
